I made this trip yesterday to both the upper and lower falls, walking thru the highlands to get there was taxing, but I could have rented a horse. The falls are beautiful, I was disappointed that the mermaid didn't show up!

We flew into Tarapoto (about one hour flight from Lima) and drove through Moyobamba (small city -for overnight I recommend "La casa de mi Sueno") to the little town of Cocachimba. About six hours by car if made without stops. We stopped at a beautiful...More

Much better than what I was expecting. Up there with Machu Picchu. Just magic. We took a horse on the way back. Glad we did that. Where good tread boots, it rains alot and get slippery.

I t's a 3hour each way walk from the nearest village to visit the waterfall. The walk is through some beautiful countryside with fabulous views and then the treat of Gocta itself when you get there.

Sure, this is a relatively popular site -- go there and you'll see why! Pretty vegetation along the way. I recommend getting close-in at the falls so you get to feel the the strong spray of falling water.

We have been to Iguazu but in a different way this is just as impressive with stunning views especially from the second level. The walk to the base is a good stretch and quite an uphill return. View at the base is pretty awesome looking...More

I loved visiting Gocta - it's a challenging hike from San Pablo to the top waterfall, and even more challenging down through the jungle to access the lower part of the waterfall, and then hiking back to Cocachimba (90min). But all the effort gets rewarded...More

It's a bit out of the way and the path there can be challenging because of the long uphill walks from Cocachimba but the climate is cool and the scenery is beautiful. If you choose to go without a guide it can be additionally challenging....More

A day spent at Gocta is a revitalizing and beautiful experience. The full circuit is 19km which brings you to the base of both the top and bottom falls. The trail starts from the community of San Pablo where you can hire a local guide...More

It's impossible to loss. There is only one way to arrive, you only have to follow straight and don't turn right or left. From the gocta lodge there are 5 km to gocta. It's a beautiful place
