This Fundacion (free admission) has preserved the home of a privileged Cuencano family and their family photographs. It is unique, in our experience, at least, in showing this kind of family setting so vividly in Cuenca. The home itself is magnificent, intricately painted. Photographs reveal happy children, sometimes with their servants. The difference in the two is easily seen. It is a look back into Cuenca's history that is fascinating. This neighborhood also has the San Sebastian Church and Parque and the Museum of Modern Art. So you can see several worthwhile things within a few blocks. Also, there are several lunch places nearby.

A documentary film is currently being made about this lovely building. It houses the offices of the Bienal de Cuenca, probably the most important contemporary art event in the country, and often offers artists' talks, workshops for art students, etc.

The building itself is nothing special at all. One minute is enough time to see all there is worth seeing.
Worse though, is that this is the home of the Biennal art show in Cuenca. Supposedly bringing world famous artists to town every two years, we have seen it three times now -- and none of the shows had anything I would consider worth presenting anywhere... :(

The Fundacion is based on a beautiful and well preserved colonial house not far from the San Sebastian church and the museum of Modern Art.
It features artworks of contemporary Latin American artists.
If you are passing by, take a look.

This is now an office building and yet the architecture and restoration of this building is extraordinary. In the middle of the City, it is worth the effort to figure out where it is. It also houses the Biennial Offices which always love the support of the tourism industry.
