4 Days Paddle Board at the Cuyabeno Reserve

Cuyabeno Reserve, the second-largest in all of Ecuador, is located in the Amazon Region, in the northeastern part of Ecuador. It is traversed by the Cuyabeno, Aguarico and SanMiguel rivers, with a complex system of lagoons to complement the main water sources.
Cuyabeno is one of the most biodiverse nature reserves on Earth, with over 500 bird species, 350 birds, 100 mammals, and over 400,000 plant species.

There are 5 different indigenous ethnic groups living along its banks, the Siona, Secoya, Cofan, Quichua, and Shuar. Each community has its own territory, beliefs, and practices, but they all share a deep respect for nature and a simple way of life-based largely on hunting and gathering.

Cuyabeno Reserve is under threat from the oil industry and deforestation, which is why today it is more than ever paramount to protect this valuable ecosystem.

This was a great trip. Here is a list of the reasons why I would choose Waita Lodge again if I had to do this trip once again in the future. 1. The lodge is beautiful. It is far from the other lodges, which makes it even a better experience. In addition it works with the local communities, which I very much appreciated it. 2. The staff was super profesional from the start to the end. The booking process was smooth. The driver was on time. The communication of each activity was on point. 3. The guide, Diego, was the best guide I have ever met. He is super knowledgeable and more than anything you can tell that he really likes what he is doing. During our tour it rained a lot, but he did his best to reorganize activities accordingly and to give us a great experience. I highly highly recommend you ask for him as your guide. Youw ont regret it. 4. The food was sooo delicious. Beto was the cook. OMG, he made all kind of amazing dishes (I am vegetarian). Super impressed. 5. The tour itself was packed with activities. Unfortunately, as I said, it rained quite a lot during our time there. But nevertheless, we did a lot of activities and learned a lot about the jungle. 6. I felt very safe with all the COVID precautions that they took.

Due to covid restrictions, we were not able to do a shared tour but were able to set up a private tour to Otavalo Market. What a wonderful day! Andres was prompt and knowledgeable about the tour and gave us great tips. We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip outside of Quito!

I did several day trips with Ecuatraveling and I need to say to everything was perfect! From transportation to the guide I really recommended Ecuatraveling! For Cotopaxi Tour, we had the chance to reach to the glacier at 5.000 meters! From there, we had an amazing view of the Cotopaxi National Park! It was also really fun to go down with the bikes to reach a beautiful lake! I also did the Quilotoa Tour and it is breathtaking! Ecuatraveling took us to a local market where we had the chance to do some shopping to buy some local food before heading to the volcano lake! I would 100% recommended Ecuatraveling if you want to go on a tour in Ecuador !

Ecuatraveling is a company with a lot of knowledge about Ecuador. They responded very fast and were really helpful. I am so happy they recommended me to do this trip because it was such an amazing experience! I stayed for 4 days at the Waita lodge and it was incredible! The staff has a lot of knowledge about the area and all the animals which live there. They spotted all of them and we even saw a sloth. I did paddleboarding here, which was the most amazing experience ever. While being on our boards we spotted many pink dolphins that were playing around us. The food was very good and when laying in the hammocks you can enjoy all the sounds of the jungle.

Thank you guys for showing me the best of the best excursions in Ecuador. Little did I know that I would see one of the most interesting countries in the world. Why do I say it's the most interesting country in the world? Ecuador actually means equator, which makes sense since the equator line runs through the country. It was very special to get to experience the equator line even though none of the stuff at the museum made any sense. What made sense is that you can literally stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern hemisphere. Going there is a must and you support local. Other things that make Ecuador so special is that the summit of Mount Chimborazo, Ecuador’s highest mountain, is the point on Earth closest to the sun. Ecuador is also divided into 4 regions; the coast, the Highlands, Amazonas, and Galapagos. Another cool and really interesting fact about Ecuador is that it has the world's first and second UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Quito being the first city and Galapagos the second. It's also one of the most biodiversity countries in the world. It's crazy to think that such a small country has so much to offer. We did a loop and most importantly we drove through the avenue of volcanoes where I got to see 10 volcanoes, which 5 of them is active. Woop Woop. Then we headed to Baniõs, which is literally the end of the Andes mountains and the beginning of Amazonas. Baniõs was my favorite for sure, with deep valleys, lush and green mountains, and plenty of waterfalls around every corner. When I look back at everything we did; hiking magnificent altitudes (It looked like it was my first time hiking, haha, I couldn't manage the altitude sickness very well) road trip, rafting, rappelling, hot springs, paddleboarding in the Amazon River, playing soccer with the locals, got to meet incredible people, experience the coast with beaches, bicycling scenic routes, made homemade cheese and other local delicacy food. I can't wait to go back for more, to see the whole country. I highly recommend these guys, you will make friends for a lifetime and really experience the authentic local way of traveling in Ecuador.
