I scheduled this tour for the second day of our trip to Ecuador. At the agreed upon time our guide picked us up at our hostel. I was initially surprised to see a passenger car with only one person driving and didn’t realize I booked a private tour. As it turned out, it was a wonderful trip with our guide, Jose Louis. It took about 2 hours to travel to the Otavalo market. On the way we stopped at a restaurant for some coffee and breakfast snacks and then at the site of the “equator” in a small town. Jose Louis engaged us with his conservation about Ecuador politics, history, geography, and culture. He was knowledgeable about the different foods, agricultural products, and people. We also learned about Jose Louis’s life, which added a personal touch to the trip. At the market Jose Louis initially walked around with us and then gave us time to explore ourselves. We took this trip on a Saturday so the market was much larger than the weekday market. The market is a good place to find Ecuadorian handicrafts including hats, blankets, jewelry, painted pictures and bowels. There was also lots of interesting foods to sample. For the reminder of our trip in Ecuador we didn’t find too many other opportunities to purchase Ecuadorian handicrafts. Jose Louis also took us to a near by market used by the locals to buy all types of fruits and vegetables. Jose Louis identified the different and unique produce. After the markets we ventured to the Cotacachi volcano area, stopping for lunch on the way at a very nice restaurant. The Cotacachi volcano has a collapsed carter that now forms a spectacular lake. We took a short walk along the carter edge. Jose Louis offered a longer hike but we were still adjusting to the altitude. So, it was back to Quito along a different route where we saw some of the many green houses growing roses, an Ecuadorian export. Jose Louis was an excellent guide, who offered us a personal perspective of Ecuador and detailed and interesting background information about the country.

Jose is perfect guide!! I have visited local community(Huaorani community) for a week. I was able to learn their culture, life, and it is a reasonable price. Their life is not convenient, but I found a leal life for human. I think it is very important for modern age times. Also, Jose was good guide. because I requested the tour suddenly, but he could arrange it. I recommend the private tour. Thank you!! Hiro, Japan

I really don't know how we can ever thank Assyah and Jose Luis and show our gratitude for everything they did for us to have the most beautiful wedding. They worked so so hard and made such a beautiful environment to help us bring together our two cultures and families. Assyah and Jose Luis were so patient and understanding with challenges, changes, indecisiveness, and family dynamics. The ambiance, decoration, every detail, and most importantly the feeling of the wedding were absolutely perfect and so true to our relationship. They really took the time to understand us, who we are, and what we wanted. We will be forever grateful. So many people came up to us and said it was by far the best wedding they had ever been to. Every single person agreed there was not one thing that they would have changed. It is honestly so shocking to have planned the whole wedding from abroad without seeing anything in person or working face to face yet Assyah and Jose Luis made everything come out not only absolutely perfectly but so much more amazing than we had even imagined. We had a dream to bring our cultures families and lives together in Ecuador that we were not sure how we would actually pull off but they made it happen and in the most beautiful way possible.

They organized a great trip and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Jose was a great consultant as we determined the best options given our limited time. Given it was a private tour for 5 people, they were also very flexible to the needs of the group. Overall, it was a fantastic day!

We spent a little over 2 weeks in Ecuador and booked the entire trip with Jose Luiz and Terrasenses. We are very experienced travelers and have high expectations for unique experiences. We hate international chains and seek local experiences Overall Jose and his wife did an excellent job. The haciendas stayed at were beautiful and intimate. We enjoyed the so many special moments including the private tour of the golden church, lunch at Uroko, and the changing of the guards. Mountain biking was a thrill as was the zip lining. We loved our stay at Sacha Lodge in the Amazon and the Legends Cruise through the Galapagos. Jose and the driver were always punctual and accommodating to our changing needs. My only suggestion to to understand the travel times between places. If we were to book again, I would have skipped some places altogether in order to avoid the long car rides. We didn't appreciate how mountainous the mainland was so distances we much further than appeared. Overall a truly excellent trip with Terrasenses.
