Marketed as a prime tourist attraction, but I did not find it of particular interest. Most of the structures surrounding the square are new and a bit Disneylike. Many restaurants and bars, hotels in a bit of an international ambiance. It feels like this place could be anywhere in the world. The name Foch, a French WOI marshal contradicts the 'happy to party' atmosphere.

There is a small Tourist Information booth with staff in uniform that speaks a little bit of English and offers useful free maps of the city and Ecuador.

Hidden gem!!! Best pastries you will ever try!! There is this place behind Plaza Fosch in Hidalgo de Pinto street called Sans Souci. It is a small place where the owner makes her pastries and sells them on the spot. We were so surprised by the unbelievable high quality and good taste of the pastries!! So good!! By talking to the owner she mentioned she had studied in France!!! It is a must to go there!!!

We stayed in the Mariscal district only one night as we knew the old town would have more appeal for us. We walked the 6 blocks to Plaza Foch to check it out. That was about 3 in the afternoon and it had many young people and backpackers. A good place and time to people watch.

We continued down to the Artisan's Market where we spent some time and walked back hoping to have dinner. It was about 5:30 and Plaza Foch was hopping!! FiLLED with young people. Music blaring form every venue. No place for a "quiet dinner". I can only imagine how this place hops later at night or early morning.

It is THE place if you want night life but a quite place for dinner was impossible to find. I repeat this is from a seniors POV. Judge for yourselves :)

Lot of boys and girls, locals and foreigners, Spanish and several other languages are spoken and varieties of food and lot of noise, that's Plaza Foch. Walk around the place and did not feel comfortable to be on your own. Still felt safe till 9pm. Advice was to return to hotel by taxi.

This is a nice place to have a cup of coffee, since i don't drink i didn't like any other of the main attractions such as bars and discos however i was bugged by a thug (for the accent he seemed colombian, which are plenty around here) but im a big guy and know how to handle this, however i noticed this is a trend here and this is why im writing this review.

I travel a lot to quito and i must say this is no place for a lonely tourist. This is true at nightime because during the day it seems pretty safe.

All and all nice place to hang around maybe eat something and grab a coffe but be careful at night.

Really crap shady AF bars and touts everywhere. Went to Finn McCools bar. Which was ok. Homeless people asking for money constantly. Having worked with homeless guys for 15 years I know all the scams etc. If going be prepared and Just stay confident with a firm No. If you fall for the BS you are buying the drugs!

Keep your personal belongings and ash very secure.

If you go on your own I believe you will become a target for all sorts of scams, regardless wether male or female.

Quitó Local Government desperately need to invest in more police to monitor and protect locals and tourists who are obviously a target for criminal gangs.

No BS just the facts.

Lively area Friday and Saturday. Enjoyed two outstanding restaurants and two coffee shops. Sunday afternoon very few people around and took a stroll towards Old Town. Didn’t get 3 blocks when my wife felt something wet on the back of her neck. Two guys ran up to us and pointed out that she was hit by bird droppings. The back of her hair and blouse were covered with grey liquid. The guys happened to have tissues and began to help clean up. They pointed out bird dung all over me as well and started wiping my back. I reached down to check my cellphone and wallet and the wallet was gone (front zippered pocket). Then they split up and ran in opposite directions. As I was chasing one of them a police car drove up and he tossed the wallet. Police took us and the culprit to a police substation. After a lot of discussion, passports reviewed, and questioning our travel plans (leaving Quito in 4 hours) we were informed that to file a report we would need to go to the main station and the process would take at least 4-5 hours. So no report filed. Beware the pigeon poop pickpockets. We are still trembling but we still have our valuables. Don’t fall for it like we did!

It's a very small plaza, but surrounded by nice restaurants and cafes. The tour bus has a stop here, and walking up and down on Calle Reina Victoria, you can go to the National Museum and to some other few art galleries and museums.

We stayed in Plaza Foch. There were lots of places to eat and drink. Prices were reasonable. I felt safer with the police presence. It was a bit rough, but hey who cares! We stayed for four days and had absolutely no problems.
