Visited as part of our Quito city tour, the tour guide warned us that the hike up the hill was unsafe day and night. The vantage point gives great panoramic views of the city, there a couple of stalls and a small museum with a nominal admission charge.
The structure is the tallest aluminium statue in the world and is actually taller than Christ the Redeemer in Rio.

This is a worthwhile visit, but it's a shame that safety is such a factor. We would have enjoyed this so much more if we could safely hike up and down the hill ourselves.

On a sunny day, we decided to 'piggy-back' hike up with a couple of high schoolers, with the idea of 'safety in numbers.' But the high schoolers made it to their destination one quarter of the way up, so we were without anyone at that point. So we asked them if it is safe for us to continue up, and they said no. This is consistent with what the local police told as there, the various reviews here, and some bad stories we heard from other travelers while there.

We ended up hailing a cab the rest of the way up (which I'm reading we are also not supposed to do). On the way down, we took a city bus, which worked well for us.

Again, worthwhile place to visit. It's just too bad that safety is a concern here, and many other places in Quito.

Take a taxi or an Uber…don’t try to walk there. Outstanding views and very interesting history. Definitely worthy of the time it takes to get up there!

It is way up n the hill and some people like to hike up to it., but it would almost be a half day hike because of elevation. It has an amazing story and it is just like visiting the statue of Rio de Januario in Brazil.

We arrived at night when the statue was closed, but I don’t think I would have gone up anyway. The Virgen is impressive, even taller than the Cristo Redentor in Rio. Plus great views of the city.

This is a great sight to see at night when the statue is all lighted up. Reminds me of the statue in Rio but this one is 12 feet taller.

Took the Trolley Tour to see La Virgen, she certainly is impressive! I like how you can see her from the downtown square and also take a short ride to get up close. Due to there being limited time at the site, I opted not to take the many stairs inside the statue. There were some vendors outside, but didn't get to see what they had.

It is worth the $1 admission. Walk inside to get the history of the monument and spectacular views of Quito. We hiked up the stairs from Old Town and it was worth the sweat and exercise

We went up to the statue made of aluminium in a car, think it would be a tough climb walking in the heat. nice views of the whole city and also of the local mountains and volcanos. Think it was $1 to go inside the statue.

Big statue atop a hill, the symbol of Quito. Magnificient from a distance, but strange when you observe it closely. Good panoramic view from this point.
