Guapulo is best experienced on a day when the many resident artists open their studios to the public. Sadly, that only happens two or three times a year. However, if you're up for a walk with amazing views, the winding street down to the cathedral is really lovely. If you're lucky enough to hit on a day the cathedral is actually open, it's a great bonus. The big challenge is when you have to turn around and walk back up the charming winding street. It's the kind of climb that feels like an accomplishment all on it's own.

Far from the historic center, this church is a hidden jewel. The location is hidden but the view of the side mountain is amazing. The inside of the church is colonial Spanish. Beautiful place.

Start descending from the Hotel Quito, where you will have the best views of the valley. The road is narrow and dates from the late 1500's. Down the valley you will arrive to the church which is well preserved and beautiful. The convent has been turned into a university, so nothing to see there.

All Spanish. Not the best interpretation, but the center area is nice (although I was there in dry season and it wasn't well landscaped).

There is nothing bohemian in the attractive sense in Guapulo. It is quite difficult to go down and later to come back up due to terrible traffic and road conditions. Most of the "barrio" are slump warn out small homes. Down it is possible to visit a plaza and a small church. There are a few low end bars along the road. They are closed during the day and at night the area is a bit risky to visit alone.

Everytime we return to Quito we go to Guapulo. Each time they are doing more to keep it up. The view is amazing and the church is well kept.

Guapulo is a beautiful place on the side of a very very tall hill. It has a popular church and also is full with hispters and arts pubs and restaurants. A great spot to go by night,

Bohemian, arts, restaurant. Can start with the Mirador and walk down to the Guapulo Monastey/ church, either by the steps or by the road. Be aware that church is often closed. Beneath the Mirador a wonderful vegetarian restaurant with the incredible view. The road is cobble stones. Further down there is the Guapulo park to take a walk.

This church is a special place. Hundreds of years old, you can feel the history and the faith that built it.
