This a solid conservation project that is preserving thousands of acres of cloud forest, opportunities to see Andean spectacled bears, birds and enjoy comfortable rooms at the lodge.

It was a wonderful nature experience and we arrived just in time for the Spectacled Bears. For those who have a few spare days in Quito but would prefer to be in the jungle rather than the city, Maquipucana is perfect. It's only around two hours from Mariscal Sucre International Airport to the lodge and yet it nevertheless feels tranquil... More

This may be one of the oldest cloud-forest reserves in the area but it's not only the infrastructure that shows definite signs of age, also their administration processes seem to start falling apart. There are many shortcomings in maintenance to the buildings and infrastructure. The whole place feels very tired. What they tout "research station" in their marketing information is... More

We are committed to share Maquipucuna and that our visitors have the best experience in our piece of paradise, so we are deeply troubled by the experiences you describe. Our stay was awesome, peaceful, AND educational. Arsenio was our host and guide for our stay. He took us on great hikes thru their property where we saw lots of birds and unique flora. Arsenio is very knowledgeable, but more than that, he's genuinely excited to share what he knows, and his enthusiasm is wonderful to observe. We were sad... More

Beautiful stay , service was amazing , food was excellent, absolutely everything was perfect! Getting there was a bit tricky as you are on very thin roads that overlook a beautiful valley. The whole experience was worth it. I would go back again and again.

The hikes around are breathtaking as a suggestion consider hiring horses to cover more ground. The fauna and bird life particularly the humming birds are really special and everywhere.

We stayed 2 nights/3 days at the Ecolodge and enjoyed the experience. Arsenio was our guide and and a phenomenal birder. Hikes in the cloud forest were easy along former roads to moderate on the Pre-Inca trails. Arsenio kept the hikes interesting as he whistled bird songs and they sang back. He explained the uses of plants along the trails.... More

I have spent my entire career in environmental conservation. First as a ranger in California, as director of California State Parks and as deputy director of the National Park Service. Maquiepucuna is the epitomy of what an ecolodge should be. It sits lightly on the land, employs local indigenous people and the food is all natural and some of the... More

If you are planning a trip to Ecuador then Maquipucuna ecolodge should be on your list of places to stay! I stayed here for 10 days on a tropical semester in 2014. I loved it so much that I had to return this time bringing my husband. The staff is so friendly and the food is amazing! This is not... More
