This is the most beautiful church I have ever seen, the inside is completely covered in gilded leaf, and the outside has so many stone details and symbolisms. The church is a museum itself but mass is still served. It was recently restored so it looks spectacular!

The most impressive of all the churches we visited in Quito. An amazing amount of gold leaf and wood carving everywhere. The Jesuits were kicked out of Ecuador by the Dominicans for over 100 years because they were educating the poor. They have now taken possession of this church again and it is definitely worth a visit

The amount of gold they have inside is crazy to see but it shows how greedy the church was (is) and feels like it's still a money grab with $5 entry. And they're serious about no photos I took my phone out and before I took a shot they radioed a guard who told me they watch everybody through security... More

Decided to go to an Ecuadorian church. Why not one covered in gold. The church is over the top in gold decoration. We attended the whole hour long service and it was very pleasant. The local influence was wonderful with church people in local costume dancing during the service. The music/hyms was very pleasant and not high church at all.... More

This church was incredibly ornate with beautiful ceilings and gold materials everywhere. Main altar piece was stunning. We recommend seeing it with a guide to explain the historical elements but it is a must see attraction in quito

US$5 to go inside is disgusting. For all the gold the catholic church stole, they should not charge fee. Even tough only $2.50 for Ecuadorians, charging an admission fee for a church is disgusting. This is not the Jesuit way.

This church looked and felt so majestic! Beautiful artwork that words can't describe. The restoration done to the church was done with great care to keep the historic value of the place. This is truly a National Treasure and hope it stays this beautiful forever. You will feel the uplifting of your spirit when you visit this church.

Beautiful restored church right in the old center of Quito. The history of Mariana is worth the guide (which I didn't take but gladly overheard!)
