About Biking Dutchman
"There’s a reason the South American Andes is spoken about with awe, and the cone of Ecuador’s Cotopaxi volcano is the icing on this mountainous hunk of cake. Scraping the sky at more than 5800 metres above sea level, the stratovolcano is currently snoozing after chucking a tantrum in late 2015, when it spat smoke and ash into the air. Rug up for altitude and thunder down its foothills on a 30-kilometre cycling trip with Biking Dutchman Tours. A back-up vehicle will carry you up high, where you’ll swing onto the saddle of a 21-speed mountain bike and head off-road, winding through ancient lava fields and past wild horses grazing in grassy plains studded with wildflowers. Stop at Incan ruins, enjoy a homemade picnic lunch, and spot the snowy giant reflected on the surface of Limpiopungo Lake... " GET LOST MAGAZINE

We took a 1 day tour and it was amazing! It was just me, a friend, and our tour guide Jan. The trip was tailored to our needs and abilities. The lunch was homemade and one of the best meals we had during our trip to Ecuador. We ate at a beautiful site near a river. The hot springs were a perfect break during our day of cycling. Hoping to visit Ecuador and do another longer tour in the near future!

We had a great time on our one day trip to the Papallacta Hot Springs. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, it was just us and our guide, who is the founder of the company. Communication with them was great, we were picked up right on time, and had a pleasant time chatting the whole way to our starting point. The bikes were nice and instructions were very clear. The support vehicle was always nearby and met us at different points. We were told to take our time and feel free to stop for as many photo ops as we wanted. We never felt rushed and he was open to schedule adaptations based on what we wanted. Lunch was a homemade picnic and absolutely delicious. Never a dull minute and by far our favorite day on our trip to Quito. Will be booking one of their multi day trips in the future.

Deserves its excellent reputation! The tour in Cotopaxi was one of the highlights of our trip. Absolutely amazing - booked another tour with them right after! I had never used a mountain bike before in such settings, and I felt safe and supported throughout the tour. Bikes were of excellent quality. The owners are some of the nicest/most interesting persons we met in Ecuador, they care about their clients and continue to provide excellent (and safe) service at a time when COVID has been impacting them (and the entire tourism industry!) severely. I strongly recommend this agency!

Thank you so very much for your encouraging review. 29 years ago the BIKING DUTCHMAN started operations -as the pioneers in MOUNTAIN BIKING in Ecuador-. We have had our ups and downs, sometimes strikes or a volcano tested our skills to survive. But nothing could have prepared us for this Pandemia. However, we are confident that -when this is over- we will come out stronger than ever. How do we know that? Because now, more than ever, TRUST means all and, fortunately, we have earned the trust of our clients, by being every day the best we can! Thanks again for your recommendation it means the world to us.

My wife and have been travelling in Ecuador for our honeymoon. First, Ecuadorians take COVID quite seriously (more than all western countries we have been since March) same goes for Biking Dutchman - don’t be scared: you can enjoy touring Ecuador and bike tours safely. Second, we chose Biking Dutchman because of their reputation and because they basically created the biking tour business in Quito. We weren’t disappointed, the nice couple running the place really have things figured out. Third, our personal experience was OUTSTANDING. We did the Cotopaxi Tour, and we had the chance to have one of the owners as a driver/guide, a well-travelled dutch national with great stories to tell! We also had a local guide, very helpful and competent. The bike ride was spectacular, words cannot really describe what one feels when biking down a volcano like Cotopaxi. The tour was well organized, safe - with great regard for potential altitude sickness, with top notch bikes, a great (homemade!) lunch and different sections (steep and fast, flat and easy, etc.) - the hardest are optional, and always safely managed. We saw wild horses, llamas and beautiful birds. It truly is magical. We loved it so much we booked another tour in a week, this time in Mindo. We will comment on that tour once we’ve done it! If you are considering a tour with them, don’t hesitate! COVID or not COVID, Ecuador is a great idea, and Biking Dutchman an even better one.

Good morning Julien I would like to start with my sincereapologies for replying so late.  You toldme that you do not write a Review and expect an answer, but that you do it whenyou like an experience and would like to recommend it to others. Nevertheless, it is important for us to show our appreciation when clients dedicate time and effort to compliment our family business. I read your fantastic review a few weeks ago and was so moved with your words, that it seemed impossible for me to match your Review and honor it with an answer. But even if I fail, I want to let you know some things: How important and meaningful it was for us to receive your visit at the office.  We have been closed for 7 months and to see you both was like a summer breeze on a hot day. Also, it showed Jan and me that this is not over yet.  That we will come out of this and hopefully stronger than ever!  We have been through a lot in these past 29 years of the BIKING DUTCHMAN; there were strikes, curfews, eruptions of volcanoes, etc., challenging times when our mere existence was threatened.  And yet, we made it.  So we are hoping that COVID19 won't defeat us.  And when things are calm again and we can go out without fear, when we can travel again to discover the world again, we will welcome our visitors with the warmth that characterizes our Ecuador and its inhabitants. So let me thank you both for doing two trips with us, for helping us arranging yet another tour with a friend of yours and last, but not least, for your words of appreciation, that mean the world to us!

Even finishing our Cotapaxi ride in a rainstorm, this day was so much fun and beautiful that I pronounced it one of the best days of my life! And we saw condors as we cycled around the plateau beneath the mountain. Our guide Jorge and our driver Patricio (who was a happy guy and good D) provided us with two perfect days. The quality of the bikes was excellent, the scenery amazing, and the rides challenging. Even lunch provided by the owner's wife was so good I brought home her recipe. After our day two ride to another Reserve further north where we road gorgeous woodsy trails that were once the original dirt road across the Andes, we relaxed in one of the prettiest hot springs I've ever seen--near Papallacta. Jen the owner is a fantastic person who runs a first class operation. I've recommended Biking Dutchman to everyone I know who is considering a trip to Ecuador. Our two days were a perfect interlude between a jungle stay in a lodge and then on to the Galapagos.
