I met Sally for the first time back in 2005 and finally managed to ride with her in Ecuador in 2010. In the meantime I also rode with her in Mongolia and Colombia and I am planning to join her for a ride in Uruguay and to return to Ecuador... not to mention the long list of other rides she is planning for 2020/2021 all over Latin America.
Ride Andes is brilliant! The tours are super profesionally managed and every rider is taken care off individually. The horses are perfectly matched to riders ability and demands.
Sally's horsemenship is outstanding, the horse care is excellent and you can be ensured that safety is ensured at all times for both horse and rider. If you are looking for the best in class that is where to go to!! I have ridden all over the world and put in a lot of research and I confidently can very strongly recommend Ride Andes!!
Sally also organised several non-horsey trips during my stay in Ecuador (i.e. Galapagos islands, day trips to areas around Quito). With no hesitation I will travel with her in the future.

Every detail of every ride (now five) I have taken in various countries with Ride Andes has been memorable for the quality of the ride. The chosen horses are always fit and very able to contend with the terrain as well as the length of the days; the saddlery is comfortable both for the horse and the rider; the accommodation and the food is always more than adequate and always delicious; finally every client is given personal considration and care. Not forgetting the attention the horses receive at the end of each day.
I cannot imagine taking a horse based holiday with anyone other than Sally Vergette and Ride Andes - absolutely the best and highly recommended.
My most recent holiday was in Columbia January 2020.

This riding tour was AMAZING! My sister and I booked a riding tour with Sally in the Northern Highlands of Equador. It was the highlight of our trip. Sally and her team made the experience extra special and we highly recommend her riding tours. Sally was extremely accommodating and made us feel comfortable from the very start. She is an excellent communicator and made sure the riding tour was perfectly tailored to what we wanted to do. You can tell how much she cares about her horses and giving people an incredible experience. Her horses are in excellent health and they are all so well mannered. We felt safe and comfortable the entire time. Sally and her team made sure we had the right equipment to ride and selected the perfect horses for our riding abilities. The ride was breathtaking and truly a one-of-a-kind experience. There's no better way to experience being in Ecuador and in the Andes than on horseback. Please do yourself a favor and book a riding tour with Sally, you will not regret it!! My sister and I are already planning our next riding tour with Sally and her team! TRULY INCREDIBLE

A friend and I just returned from Ecuador and a horseback trip with Sally at Ride Andes. We did the 3 day ride with 2 nights at La Merced Hacienda in the Zuleta Valley. What can I say except it was a thrilling, bucket list, epic adventure. The horses were very well taken care of and loved, in great physical shape and up for the challenge. We rode through the mountains, surrounding pastures , through streams, along rivers, through groves of eucalyptus, surrounded by grasses waving in the winds filled with wildflowers and condors and kestrels flying overhead. I truly felt like I was in a movie, or a dream.

Sally was a wealth of information about plant identification and their medicinal uses. She shared with us the history of the area regarding Spain's stranglehold on the land . All very informative and troubling.

I am not an experienced rider but Sally was very patient with me and helped me everyday to try to improve my experience with my horse. She is a good teacher who really tried to keep the riding safe and comfortable. She has the best saddles I have ever ridden on...no sore anything all 3 days!

Each night the hacienda was such a welcoming, cozy place to return to for a delicious meal after a day of riding .The owners took very good care of us and the rooms were fabulous.

Everything and everyone associated with Sally were fantastic including the driver who happily made 2 panaderia stops so we could buy local pastries. This tour was outstanding. The scenery is beyond description...spectacular is as close as i can get, but there really are no words .Do not hesitate to join Ride Andes on this trip. You will be blown away.
Thanks Sally for an experience of a lifetime. We would love to come back and do the Cotopaxi tour with you.

p.s. Do not be afraid to go to Ecuador during this pandemic. They are very organized and serious about covid and were mask compliant EVERYWHERE we went. The people understand how to try to stop the spread. I am from the U.S. and we have a lot to learn from the people of Ecuador about caring for your neighbor.

Ride Andes has the experience and enthusiasm to make every riding holiday a great adventure. Having previously enjoyed rides with Ride Andes in Ecuador, Chile, and Brazil Pantanal, we decided to head south to the wild Andes and glaciers of El Calefate. We were not disappointed!
Long but comfortable rides on sure-footed creollo horses to the extremities of the estancia where our gaucho guides cooked wonderful assado and stews were interspersed with truly unique private boat excursions to the face of the Perito Moreño glacier and to an isolated glacial lake near the border with Chile.
In the evenings there was a warm fire (welcome even in the southern summer) and even warmer welcome from our hosts before a delightful dinner and sound sleep in our ensuite rooms.
We highly recommend this ride with Ride Andes

I have ridden horses all over the world. I rode with Sally in 2009. I vowed to return. Many horse rides later, I finally did. Nothing changed. It was still probably my best ride for the second time. Sally is a perfectionist. Her horses are healthy, well kept, friendly and their feet are trimmed and healthy. Her Tack is in great shape. She goes out of her way to fit every rider perfectly, which is not easy for me since I am barely 5 ft (152cm). She loves her horses and it shows. Her horses are number one. Safety is number one with her for her riders and her horses. Beautiful rides and her knowledge of plants, geology and history are only #2, to her love of good food. How she stays so slender I do not know. You eat very delicious food. So it is impossible to rank what is best. It is all tied to a great well thought out trip. I do not think it is possible to get used to Cotopaxi. I also did the technical ride into Pinan. that was utterly amazing. That is for another blog. Ride with Sally for a trip of a lifetime, and then go back again, just because - just to be sure that it was as great as you thought. Go to her website: rideandes.com for lots of pictures.

I booked a three day riding adventure with Sally and it was the experience I had in Ecuador. My guide Patricio was very experienced and had a broad knowledge about plants, wildlife and history of the Cotopaxi National park, which made the trip not only adventurous but also very informative. At the end of my trip he helped me to buy a ticket in Quito and made sure I can safely continue my travels. During my three days I got to see the different faces of the national park. Exploring the Cotopaxi area with a horse was stunning because it enables one to see a lot more compared to hiking. The terrain is ideal for all kinds of riding. There are some plains which are made to gallop through, you find tiny trails where the horses show their sure foots (and you get your daily dosage of adrenaline) and there are mountainous areas where you calmly walk through and just enjoy the nature.
Sally and Patricio also provided a warm poncho as well as a water repellent one and some useful chaps. The horses are super friendly, I always felt safe around them and trusted them to find a safe way through the most difficult terrain. I was very lucky to observe wild horses and some condors, the national bird of Ecuador and much more wildlife.
If you are a rider I highly recommend to go with Sally. It’s not just a 2-3 hour sightseeing tour with many other tourists but rather a thrilling adventure where you get to feel and see Pacha Mama (Mother Earth)

If you've ever dreamed of an exotic trip that includes horses, this is the one for you. And whether you are a passionate equestrian or someone who just wants a different sort of adventure, Ride Andes offers it all.

I have ridden with Ride Andes in Uruguay, Argentina and Ecuador on multiple trips over the last 20 years (as well as with other companies), and I can say without a doubt that Sally and her team offer the gold standard in experience. The quality of horses, tack, food, accommodations, local knowledge, and safety are all top notch.

Whether it's a fast paced gallop across the highlands of Ecuador or a lovely scenic cruise, I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try.

I will return to ride with them over the next years, bringing family and friends, reveling in the experience of an insiders view of places unlike any other.

My brother, fiancée, and I were visiting Quito and wanted to see more of the Ecuatorian countryside. We read great things about Ride Andes in the Lonely Planet guidebook and we were not disappointed!
We reached out to Sally with a rough idea of when we wanted to go and she organized everything. We were picked up in Quito, taken directly to our horses, and after a brief session of being taught the ropes, we got out on the trail. After a great day of riding and a delicious picnic, we stayed at a lovely hacienda and then did another day of riding before coming back to the city. Both days of riding gave us wonderful views of mountains, valleys, farms, and local flora and fauna.

The horses were very well taken care of and well trained. Sally and her staff are incredibly knowledgeable about horses as well as the local geography, people, and culture. We were all beginner riders but the Ride Andes team made sure we felt safe on the horses and actively helped us improve our technique.

Would highly recommend this experience and looking forward to going out on another ride when we return!

RideAndes, Sally, and her accompanying horsemen (Ecuador: chagras) offer one of the most versatile, scenic, and bespoke horse trekking adventures offered in the Andes. Two friends and I undertook the Cotopaxi horse-trek (with dome riding around the Pesillo-Olmedo region close to Cayambe), in which I cannot express how surreal and incredible the landscape in which you ride through is; the horses were incredible, calm, and rode beautifully. The guides are very professional, warm, informative, and have a great level of socialising during the trek. We stopped for lunch for a little while, and during this time, the guide kindly explained cultural and common topics about Ecuador and South America in general, and it was great to hear it through his perspective. He also brought along some local fruits and teas for us to try, which was a lovely gesture.

Given our levels of horsemanship, the guide allowed us to walk, trot, and gallop at our own leisure; instructing us when it was safe to do so. He allowed us to take many photos (a very patient guide) and even took videos of us galloping across the volcanic landscape for us. For this reason, I couldn't rate this any higher. The entire trek was so bespoke and versatile for our level of riding, which is exactly what you dream of for a horse riding adventure like this.

The horses were very tranquil and perfect to manage in the sense of walking, trotting, and galloping wherever you would like; for the three of us, the horses we rode had very comfortable gaits and lovely personalities. The tack and equipment used was in perfect shape; comfortable saddles, comfortable stirrups, warm chaps and ponchos, and good helmets/protection. Horses and tack looked very well cared for and maintained, horses looked very comfortable and happy with the tack they were wearing, so the atmosphere of riding felt really well managed and enjoyable without any worry for the horses or equipment. From this, my friends and I can say the ownership, guides, horses, equipment, and location were all unreal, there isn't a thing we would have changed about our trek (maybe extending it would have been the only thing).
