About
It is the last great project created by Oswaldo Guayasamín "Painter of Iberoamerica". It is a space that invites the reflection of history from the point of view of Latin America, from Mexico to Patagonia; from ancestral cultures to contemporary miscegenation. A point of reference for the whole world to look at the past and project ourselves into the future. The Chapel of the Man (La Capilla del Hombre) is part of the 5 cultural places of Guayasamin Foundation (Fundación Guayasamín) that you can visit with the same entrance fee: *"Casa Museo Guayasamín", *"Estudio De Oswaldo Guayasamín”, *“Sala De Exposiciones Temporales Maruja Monteverde”, *"La Capilla Del Hombre", and *"Sitio Arqueológico y Parque De Las Culturas".

Picasso of Ecuador
Dec 2020
Excellent museum of Guyasamin, considered the Picasso of Ecuador. It is well laid out and offers frequent free tours in English and Spanish. Views from museum are also really good. Great high end giftshop which also offers jewelry designed by Guaysamin's wife!

Great for Art Fans
Feb 2020
One thing worth noting is that a tour guide is provided to walk you through the museum. The tour is pretty thorough and they offer one in English or Spanish. There are many works of art on display and the building itself is interesting. My personal favorite though was Guayasamín's home next door.

Deeply moving art representing the long civil war in Ecuador.
Mar 2020
The compassion and passion of the artist is deeply felt through his representations of the horrors and tragedy of civil war and war in general. A moving experience, not an entertainment venue.

Art, Culture and nature all in one. Enjoy art by the "Picasso of South America" while enjoying beautiful architecture integrated in an inspiring landscape.

Impressive!

I would say this is a must visit place if you're in Quito. It's unique, beautiful, and provides a perspective in Ecuador, not just its art. If I had to choose, I would visit La Capilla Del Hombre over the old town churches and cathedrals. Old Town is great, but you can see , and probably have seen, similar elaborate and beautiful Catholic edifices. La Capilla is unique.

Stunning place of art
Jan 2020
We were recommended to visit this place by our tour guide. If you are interested in South American culture and contemporary art forms , do not miss this and the adjacent house. The art if quite sombre, especially in the chapel - but that’s in many ways the point.

Gorgeous museum
Dec 2019
Wow, this was such a pleasant surprise. We visited the museum and adjacent artist's house. The house was spectacular and filled with gorgeous art (his and other artists') and artifacts. The architecture was also glorious. At the end, you get to see one of the artist's paintings and a video of him creating it in about an hour. It was very fun and wonderful to watch. We actually enjoyed his house more than the museum next to it, but the museum is absolutely worth a visit too. The entire activity was not expensive... $5 or $8 per person, I think. We walked there and it was a nice, uphill walk in an area that felt very safe. Lots of cabs available for the ride afterwards. Highly recommend this unique activity in Quito.

Guayasamín an Amazing Contemporary Artist
Dec 2019 • Family
If you like contemporary art don’t miss this museum. Guayasamín’s work is very thought provoking and the place is very well design to go with his paintings.

A MUST - not your typical museum
Nov 2019
Guayasamin's art is stunning, and provocative, and very emotional. The museum's architecture is dramatic, and touring his home is fascinating! In his home, he has more of his own pieces, plus works by Picasso, and others. You'll tour his study (gorgeous painting of Quito), his bedroom, living /dining room, and his study. House has gorgeous views of Quito and surrounds. He hung out with a cast of interesting and controversial characters throughout his life. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
