When I first started researching a trekking trip in the Andes, I was very unsure as to where to start. I wanted a challenging experience and to learn more about mountaineering, but was unable to do so on my own. But when I found Fernando and Cotopaxi travel, I was blown away. His itinerary is very accurate, and from the very moment he picked us up in Quito, we were immediately thrust into the lush nature of the Cotopaxi province, climbing our first mountain that very day.
For any aspiring mountaineer, climbing with Fernando will not only be an amazing experience full of stories and great pictures, but also a learning experience as well. We climbed 5 peaks including the big and daunting Mt. Cotopaxi. While my friend and I were both inexperienced climbers, Fernando led us to summit after summit, through hardships, fatigue, hailstorms and moments of fear. He was a true leader and always motivated us to keep going. An amazing and personable man, I can honestly say that Fernando is my lifelong friend, and I hope more people will go and use his services as they are so underutilized. Cotopaxi is such a beautiful place, and having people like Fernando there to show us around is a blessing. Thank you so much Fernando! If you are reading this, I hope you and your family are safe during this difficult time. Hopefully I see you again one day.

Sincerely,
El perro de la perrera, Liam Clancy

My wife and I had a great time with the 6 day itinerary that included Pasochoa, El Corazon, Iliniza North, Quilotoa, and finally, Cotopaxi. We highly recommend this itinerary if time allows.

The hostel, Andes Alps is lovely. We love the family that ran it, and the food are always fantastic. Dogs are very friendly, they are perpetually looking to get scratches.

We met Fernando on a few occasions and he is very friendly, and will address your concerns when you ask him directly.

Our guide was Fabian and he is a great hiker. He was very friendly and addressed our concerns as best as he could. We liked him a lot even though we rarely able to converse much about the land and geography due to language barrier.

There are things I would encourage Cotopaxi travel as a company to improve on.
1. Make sure the customers understand their guides may not speak fluent English; Google translate and such can greatly bridge the gap. This may also help greatly to get the guide to help you understand what you may need to do with equipment
2. Piggy back on the first point, on mountains like Cotopaxi when it is pitch black during summit attempt, communication is critical if you need to stop and address any needs.
3. Improved email response time. I was not aware that Watsapp was the preferred method of communication. I waited for an email reply for over a week without response at one point.

Overall, I would highly recommend the company as long as you can understand some of their limitations.

The trip of a lifetime, Fernando and his crew took such good care of us and planned things so well for us.
Despite some adversity with weather, he adapted and made everything still so exciting and interesting.
He and his crew all had great English and were very experienced and knowledgeable about mountain guiding.
We even were able to ski down Cotopaxi which was a dream come true.
Definitely would recommend!!

I’ve done 2 experiences with Cotopaxi Travel and both were excellent. The first was a 3 day tour that included hikes around Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, and Laguna de Quilatoa. The second was a 2 day summit trek of Cotopaxi. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Not only did we get to experience a ton of the natural beauty Ecuador has to offer but we were also introduced to some of the local culture and food. I 100% recommend booking your adventures through Cotopaxi Travel.

Booked a trip to climb Pasochoa, corazón, illiniza and cotopaxi.

On Illiniza we were surprised by a hailstorm that left the mountain extremely icy, at one point I slipped but fernando caught me with the ropes effectively saving my life. Other than a surprise storm everything went wonderfully and fernando had us summit every mountain we set out to climb.

Plus Fernando’s home cooked meals are amazing and very healthy!

We had a wonderful time with Fernando. The organization was perfect, the material excellent and the atmosphere super friendly. We were on the summit of Cotopaxi and in the high camp of Chimborazo. Even if avalanche risk prevented a climb to the summit, the days were an unforgettable experience. The stay in El Chaupi at the end with a meal together in the family was then the crowning conclusion. Muchas gracias y con saludos cordiales Peter Klein
P.S.: We experienced the security situation as very pleasant: In the city a tremendously large presence and density of security forces and in the countryside only friendly and helpful people. Ecuador is highly recommended, Cotopaxi Travel especially.

We had an amazing time doing the gruelling Cotopaxi volcano summit. We had Maurice as our guide who was encouraging, patient and informative which allowed us to appreciate the beautiful views of the sunrise and of the panoramic views of several other mountains, clouds and valleys from the top of the glacier. The company was very organised in providing us good mountaineering equipment and the lodge we stayed at was comfortable and had delicious food. But be prepared, depending on the season, there are steep icy, gravel faces of the mountain to summit that are not for the faint hearted. Going down is also tricky as it is very slippery but our guide was pragmatic and showed us the correct technique. It is a long fatiguing summit that is quite technical in parts but well worth the visit!

My friends and I did the 4 volcanoes in 5 days tour. The climbs were beautiful but tough and are definitely for people in shape. If you are not in shape and just do some leisurely walking this will be a little bit of a challenge. Fernando was a very friendly guide and his counterpart Sergio was great at leading us at a good pace. I loved the Andes Alps Lodge and the food was absolutely amazing and delicious. Great experience! Definitely would recommend (just make sure you are in shape and have some climbing experience)

Where to begin, simply amazing. Fernando was hands down one of the best guilds I have had the pleasure of summiting with.
The whole trip was very well planned out and the spots he put me up in were just incredible. From the natural hot springs (after all the families left you have the entire place to yourself) to banos was beyond my expectations.
I did four summits and they were some of the best of my life!
You cannot go wrong with Fernando!
He puts you up in his home outside of the city so it is very peaceful and relaxing and his wife is an amazing cook! Plus you’ll meet other climbers and hikers as well.
Six stars!

We are very happy we chose Cotopaxi Travel for our summit ascent. Their office is El Chaupi. Fernando always answered quickly and managed to arrange everything for us even know it was a last minute reservation. Cotopaxi was closed so we went for Cayambe and we do not regret it. Everything was included and well organized : drive to Cayambe, lunch dinner and breakfast, night at San Gabriel refugio, and all material we needed. Our guide Luis was very kind and experienced, he speaks english very well and has a very good knowledge of mountains and Ecuador in general. We are very grateful and recommend Cotopaxi Travel 100% !
