I realise this is a historic statue, but the condition of the square is not good, then again the streets and buildings around it aren't, although I suppose it is a port area. Even so, there are tourists around spending, or trying to spend, money....More

Valparaiso needs a good clean-up. Even the main square is scruffy and the streets off it are worse. Nice architecture around but it is covered with graffiti, as is most of Chile.

This plaza is in the historic port area in cerro concepcion. If you're here long enough this area is worth a visit. Don't just come to the plaza visit this part of time at the same time in the port area.

The square is divided in 2 parts because of the road. In one is the monument and in the other there is a handmade market.
