Sad to see this museum burned twice and closed down, yet her work is saved according to the newspapers. No one seems to know who did it. Protesters at nearby La Plaza de Dignidad were said to be peacefully demonstrating.

I visited this wonderful small museum dedicated to the works of Violeta Parra on my last day in Santiago. It features all of Ms. Parra’s various art works including music, paintings and weavings. There are not that many pieces on exhibit so you’re able to really spend as much time as you wish with each piece. Be sure and listen to her music in the music trees on the first floor. Simply stand by each tree and put your ear against each tree. You’ll be able to listen Ms. Parra’s music literally in each tree.

Interesting museum dedicated to artist Violeta parra who specialized in needlework and paintings. Admission is free, donations are accepted. Quick stop, it’s a small place, but worth it for the serenity

This museum has only been open for 3 year but it is still free to enter. We went to see it out of curiosity: 60 years ago in 1958, my dad came on a university expedition to Chile and wrote about how he and his 3 English companions were "firm fans of this great singer of South Chilean folk songs" having heard her on "the B.B.C.'s Third programme". (In fact, he claims that it was they who introduced the northern Chileans with whom they stayed to her guitar songs!) The museum is small but beautiful and very interesting, not least because we had had no idea, before visiting, that she was a fine artist and activist as well as a musician. A very remarkable person. But ultimately tragic! Noticing that she had died surprisingly young, but finding no explanation in the museum, I looked up more information on line... and discovered that she committed suicide! In the cafe area there are tablets and headphones on which you can browse Violeta's entire music catalogue. However, I agree with other reviewers that it would be lovely to have her singing in the background throughout the museum.

A small and affectionate museum about the very treasured Violeta Parra, a very strong, tender and not enough revered Chilean human rights artist and a vivid voice for the poor and the oppressed, with a perfect mix of works and details that makes the visit a trip to know many beautiful and intimate things about the artist. We went back during the afternoon to buy some of her music. Thanks.

A beautiful and informative exposition of Violeta Parra's life. The museum shows some of Violeta's pieces of arts with informative texts, videos and sounds. It's close to the subway. The entry is free.

I'm embarrassed to say that I had never heard of Violeta Parra who is something of a legend in South America. Her life, and works hit all levels of creativity and emotions

I read a review saying only if more non-Chilean or non-Hispanic speaking people know about Violeta Parra.

I must admit I have never heard of her until I saw the top review ranking this museum received here and I'm very glad that I went visited. Her tapestries and paintings are marvellous and fantastic. Her embroidery is just beyond words. You must see the tapestry (or embroidery) she made as the poster for her exhibition in the Museo des Arts Decoratifs at the Louvre. She was the first South American artist exhibited there.

However there is very very little background information about herself explained there. I was hoping there would be a biography in the pamphlet or inside the museum. Another thing I think the museum can improve is the language used in the descriptions inside each salon about her artistic style and journey, particularly the English description. They use a lot of heavy vocabularies, a bit overly ostentatious to me. As a result everything sounds quite vague and not easy to understand what the most important things it is trying to say. It is just hard to remember or take away what being said about her particular journey or characteristic.

Also it'd be really good to hear some of her music in the museum with background info provided.

There is no entrance fee, just donation. No picture taken allowed.

I wouldn't mind paying if more info is provided to better appreciate the arts of Violeta Parra.

Sometimes it's good to explore, I had no idea who Violeta Parra was, and although not a lot of English signs in the museum, I feel I do now.
There is a lot of space in this place so maybe more things can be added but it flows around and is free with voluntary donations (for Ch$2000 thou I was given a pen - nice touch)
Access is easy as its close to Banqudano metro, and should be on your list to visit as this is how to do a tasteful museum to a local person's history.
