This is a great area to wander around. Some nice restaurants, small tourist market with souvenirs, one of Neruda's houses, lots of graffitti, lots of lapis lazulli shops.

Bellavista is one of those areas you can spend alot of time just relaxing, drinking, eating, walking around and seeing all the quirky buildings and graffiti (amazing).. Pablo Neruda's house is located in this area. Well worth visiting.

A fabulous area to explore. There's artwork everywhere. Loads of bars and restaurants with a very hip feel to them.

A true experience that was not marked by classy, clean, nor high end establishments. It was marked by an electric atmosphere with a vibe of danger. Either fact or perception but it made for an afternoon of great beers with some great conversation with a few locals. I would not recommend going alone, especially at night. Use caution but enjoy, a must try.

We chose to stay in the central area for our first visit to Santiago, which was probably smart, but next time I'm staying in Barrio Bellavista. It's near Cerro Cristobal, the Pablo Neruda house, and still just a fifteen minute walk to downtown. The area has the energy and vibe of a college town, with lots of interesting graffiti and little stores. My favorite thing to do was to grab a seat at one of the sidewalk restaurants, and split a "litro" of the local beer (Escudo) while watching the world go by.

We took the subway over to the Salvador station and then walked in the park to Plaza Italia and the bridge across the river. Bellavista is a small area with lots of little restaurants serving Chilean, Italian and other cuisines plus a number of small shops. Also here are the shops specializing in lapis lazuli jewelry and other items. Fun place to visit even if you don’t grab a bite!

We wandered around this area in the afternoon when many students were out and about. The street art is amazing and there are a multitude of restaurants and bars beefing out music. We really enjoyed the experience but I think that this area appeals mainly to the young. Cheap and cheerful would be my overall description and not to be missed, even the hawkers are entertaining and friendly

This neighborhood is close to Pio Nino street and thus has many places to eat and drink nearby. There is a university and cathedral nearby as well. The park close by is good for a walk or to check the fountains.
