Chile EFE's poor traon service
2.0 of 5 bubblesJun 2024
I took the EFE train from Estacion Central to San Carlos Station [South]. Out bound was awful, return was much better. Here is my complaint to EFE [Chile's National Railway]: Lack of explanation regarding car categories At the time of purchasing my ticket, the EFE official at Central Station did not inform me that there was a Lounge category and another more comfortable one called Preferential, with the result that my trip to San Carlos was uncomfortable and unpleasant due to having to travel in a dilapidated Lounge car. , narrow, with seats in poor condition and unhygienic. Unfortunately, I had already purchased a return ticket by Lounge car, which did not allow changes, which is why I chose to lose my ticket purchased for Monday the 10th of the present and instead purchase a ticket for Tuesday the 11th by Preferential car. which resulted in an unnecessary extra expense as a result of EFE not initially informing me of the different categories of cars. “Entre Rieles” cafeteria service very poor, to say the least During the trip and when accessing the cafeteria service, I had to wait for the young barista – supposedly serving – to finish her long social chat on her cell phone to obtain the desired service. Once I obtained this service and she answered my questions - with terse monosyllables - I asked for a glass to drink the soft drink I had bought, the strange response was a strict “there is none”, “we have instructions not to give glasses” This surprising response did not take into account that the glasses did exist since they were available for passengers who drank coffee or tea, but not for those who drank soft drinks like me, so common sense would dictate that it was not a difficulty to give me a glass. This refusal was accompanied by a lackadaisical, unprofessional and rude attitude, which I let them know in clear terms, indicating my annoyance at the terrible service and that I was also going to make a formal complaint. In response, they told me that I should speak with the Driver, who was present at that moment. She explained the nature of the problem and the poor customer service. I immediately asked the employees of “Entre Rieles” for her name, which they refused to give, only the driver, Ms. GRICELDA CALDERON, kindly gave me her name along with the corresponding apologies. When I wanted to pay for what I purchased, I did so with cash, but they did not give me the receipt required by law, claiming that the payment machine did not provide receipts for payments made in cash. After they made a phone call, they informed me that the ballot would be sent electronically to my email, which I did not accept, since – for cyber security reasons – I do not provide that information anywhere. Once I left the cafe – without a ticket – Driver Calderon very kindly talked to me and gave me the alternative of sending the ticket by mail to my temporary address in Chile, to which I agreed, as it seemed like a reasonable alternative. I must add that the cars I travel in have a dirty, old, and neglected interior and exterior appearance with many of their seats in poor condition and dirty.[car photos] EFE personal driver and passenger service I must highlight the professional, respectful, cordial and considerate attitude of the Driver Ms. Gricelda Calderon and Assistant Valeria [I think that was her name] who with their good attitude and good disposition somehow “saved” EFE's reputation. I thank these officials for helping to make my trip a little more pleasant and I congratulate them for their dedication and professionalism. Finally, I write this note with the purpose of alerting and urging EFE – my preferred way of traveling when I visit Chile – to raise the quality of supervision and implement rigorous selection and training of their contractors with emphasis on ensuring good service to the customer. customer; Without improving these essential aspects, not only does the company's reputation suffer, but also the public's desire to prefer other means of transportation with better customer service. JCF Victoria, British Columbia Canada The final insult is that EFE's on line complaint form doesn't accept complaints unless you supply a RUT number, which is the equivalent of the Canadian Social Insurance Number, naturally, being from Canada, I don't have that number...that was the final insult

After having visited the former Mapocho station, Estación Central is rather disappointing. Designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1897 it functions as a railway station untill today. It is part of an important transportation hub in Santiago, as the major bus companies have terminals here in addition to a metro station. Most locals refer to the place as Alameda station. The main connections are towards the south of Chile.

After work I like to visit the place an eat or drink something there. Is a good place to observe people and situations, but take care of the Starbucks café there. We were - with my business partner - victims of a very bad service and were compelled to left the café, despite we even did not get the coffees handled, because they must close! That was really strange and bad. They sell products at the closing time without any warning that they will close. So no peaceful time after that. I asked my money back and went out nerver to come again in....

main train station of Santiago (and possibly all Chile). However, as buses are main transport system of the country, there're not many train connections, therefore it's not busy as a train station. But, it's busy with lots of commercial activity as there're lots of shops around. It's also where you can see many homeless people, beggers or some pickpockets around. As of architecture, it's a nice building. Apart from that, not much.

Best Spanish food ever in Miami, @Jose and @Tino the best in town.
Order the Pulpo a la Gallega, Huevos rotos con jamón y trufa, the paella is also amazing and to finish you can have the piña coco Ron. Wow really good place.

The central train station is more than a train station: It's the local mall for the neighborhood. I was there on a Saturday morning and watched ladies get their hair permed and fellows get new boots. In many ways it was my favorite place in Santiago.

Plus there are nice restrooms and a food court for a nice break.

Estación central can be consider the heart of the railway sistem in Chile. It is the main raylway station of the city to start with. Very interesting architecture desingned by a Eiffel follower architec and settled mid of the 1800 to be the main raylway station in Chile. The place is easy to visit, but due the great commercial activity on the area, visitors need to take care of cameras or other belongings when visiting the place, to avoid thief or bugglarie.

Villa Francia is a part of the comuna Estacion Central in Santiago. Why is Villa Francia so important? because of it's history during the coup d'etat that happened in Chile the 11th of september of 1973. A lot of important people lived there, and there are still a lot of people that lived that period of our local history, you can go with somebody that knows the arounds and talk with people that can tell you their stories about what the experienced.

For french people, estacion central in Santiago is one of the numerous works of Eiffel(the one of Eiffel tower) in South America and notably Chili.
The estacion is clean, large and luminous...
The place in font of is a ptachwork of family, street vendors,...
The interior has a carousel, some old locomotives and a nice and cosy place to sit and got a drink.

Went here on a Wednesday afternoon and it was absolutely packed. Take the Meiggs exit from the Estacion Central subway. From there you can cross the street to get a good photo of the station. There is an area where live chickens and other animals are sold called "Mercado Estacion Central" on Exposicion street. The streets around the station are a labyrinth of clothing, souvenir, toy and electronics vendors. Terminal San Borja, a large bus terminal, is connected as well through an indoor shopping centre. If you're looking for something to do, away from the usual tourist attractions and don't mind crowds, then this could be for you. Wouldn't recommend it for those with tighter schedules.

Great place, great people, but be careful.
I am 42 yr old Indian from India (now working in USA for last 10 years) I am in Santiago Chile this week for a week of solo vacations. Today around 1pm in the afternoon I was walking from Central Station towards Bus terminal & saw a pan-pipe player on the street. I took some pictures & a video & then as I was walking away, two young buggers attacked me from the back & ripped away my gold chain from my neck. Today was 12th of June 2023. I was too shocked to react. They ran away across the busy 4 lane road in a snap. Everything happened so quick I couldn't react!

My chain was $1000 US dollars' worth in current gold prices (bought it 10 yr ago from Hyderabad India 10gm 22carats for $400 dollars)

Please be careful when you walk solo, with your jewelry, phone, camera & wallet.
