Avoid disappointment & go Tuesday to Sundays, afternoon to late. Not much is open on mondays.
Clean area, nice street art, boho vibes with restaurants & parks nearby.

Not so much for travellers because this is like a european / italian design shopping center...not packed in one building but all kind of very nice designed houses converted into shops and cafe´s..
The neighbourhood is growing so at some step it will be worth while to visit it as a tourist.

My wife and I went for a walk in search of a more interesting shopping experience in Santiago so we decided to find Barrio Italia. It's located on Av.Italia, south of Sta. Isabel for two or three blocks. It's actually an awesome place to visit a multitude of artisan shops, have a coffee on a patio or grab a bite of lunch. The shops are wonderful (and this coming from a guy that doesn't like to shop). For those from Toronto, it's like Queen Street West, for those from NYC, it's like Soho boti both instance, much more affordable. I purchased two pairs of handmade shoes while my wife purchase a couple of handmade knitted tops, some jewelry and a pair of shoes. What was even more amazing was that we were the only tourists we saw over a 3 hour period. In preparing for this part of our trip, there was little mention of this area but I'm sure glad I read a few posts on Tripadvisor. It was a great way to experience life in Santiago and visit some wonderful shops.
I'd strongly recommend visiting Barrio Italia.....
....happy exploring

Only a 30 min walk or 15 min metro journey from Parque Forestal you will discover the charming and welcoming district when old meets new. Thankfully no high street brands have appeared yet so there is a huge array of designer shops, cafe and quality restaurants in hidden away places. There is also the area where the maestros restoring unwanted furniture. A great place to spend a few hours browsing and eating. An Aladdin’s cave will a real buzz and the hotel M Italia is great.

It is along the Avenida Italia and offers many “gallerias”, each of them with some small shops that sells almost anything a tourist can look for, bars and restaurants. If one likes shopping and eating, this is one of the best place in Santiago outside the circuit of large modern malls. Not authentic Italian though, but rather commercial.
The place is safe, street parking can be difficult to find.

An interesting place where you can still find hand made stuff. Original clothes that you won't see in any shopping mall. There are also good restaurants as well

Takes a bit of exploring to find the choicest spots, but wandering the streets can complete a leisurely afternoon, leading into a menagerie of evening-centric activities.

I regret waiting until the day before we left to venture here. What a great way to spend our last pesos shopping here.
Barrio Italia is pretty much a bunch of what looks like houses, with a a bunch of shops inside. You can find leather, wood, art, gourmet kitchen items, glasses (we found some amazing wooden shades from a local designer) and plenty of little spots to eat. Barrio Italian was a surprise inside of a surprise, inside if a surprise. There was just so much to see.
Definitely come ready to spend some cash. There are one if a kind pieces you will find in here.
Advice: if there is a door open, just walk through it. Trust me. You won't regret it.
Cheers!
