This is was my first time visiting South America, and Santiago was my first stop. I came across Free waking tours recommendation on one of the blogs and I am so glad I did, I went in with zero expectations and came out feeling like I learned about history of Santiago, about its culture, and about its people. Our guide Gaston was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city. Who could do a better job welcoming you to a new city than a local student? He told us very interesting stories, shared his personal experiences and introduced us to some tasty spots of local cuisine. I would give him 5 starts and would highly recommend free walking tours to anyone exploring a new city.

We had a great tour with Franco in Santiago. The tour was a mixture of history, recent news / society and recommendations. For example, Franco told us the history of Plaza de Armas, why there were protests at Plaza Italia and where to get great empanadas in Bellavista. Franco gave us a balanced view, never pushing his own agenda but sharing enough information to let us make our own minds up. He talked about the broader historical history of Chile, showed us specific points of interest and gave us an insight into what live is like in Santiago now. His enthusiasm for the city is addictive and he keep up the energy levels of the tour from start to finish (which was around 3 hours in total). We planned the rest of our time in Santiago based on Franco's recommendations. Great empanadas, ice cream, Terremottes, walks and museums. I would definitely recommend this tour!

My husband and I went on the four hour walking tour the first morning we were here. The trip was fantastic, led by Valancia who gave us not just the historical/cultural background, but also an understanding of some of the pressures that have led to the protests we have seen. The tour covered ground, but in a very easy way for everyone to participate. We also got tips on places that would be great to experience such as San Crystal and the funicular and cable car between two hills. This gave us spectacular 340 degree view of the city and was very affordable - buy both at the same time to save.

We went on the walk with Franco. This was our first morning in Chile so listening and talking to Franco about the city and the history of both the country and buildings buildings he showed us was great. Franco doesn’t just talk about the buildings and the past but also about food, drink and the different neighbourhoods. It’s one thing to read about somewhere but seeing it and listening makes the experience all the better. Many thanks.
