This volcano reaches high into the sky. After a long winding bus ride up to it, you get a very picturesque view of it as well as others in the area. There is a ski lift that you can take or you can walk around it. There is also a gift shop and cafe.

We stopped along the road to look across the lake towards the Osorno Volcano.
It was cloudy, but the dramatic sight of the volcano was not completely lost in the clouds.
If you are able, at least go to view the mountain.

The elusive Osorno is often under a cloud cover. We hope you are able to see it in its full glory on a sunny day. Also, if you're not squeamish, drive all the way up the winding road to the ski area. Amazing views of the lake and the other volcanoes in the area.

We'd heard that it's often cloudy and many days you can't see the peak, but we saw it all day long. In fact, we drove up the winding road to the ski lift which we took all the way up to the snow line. So beautiful!

Beautiful big volcano just above a stunning big lake. The view, when the sky is clear, is absolutely stunning. The top is covered of snow all the year. We stopped on the lake to take some nice pictures. It's a high peak, the shape is typical.

We went by taxi from a cruise ship. The day was perfectly clear and there was an amazing lenticular cloud on the top of the snow capped volcano. We took the chair lift up from the car park and were amazed to see the weird cloud spinning around the top of the volcano. Great views, a unique experience

We were booked on a tour with the above company to go and see the local sights - we followed the directions to where they would be waiting for us and wasted a lot of time back and forth looking for them, they were not there and we were told they had gone on the tour and not waited for us. We were on one of the first tenders off the ship. On our return home I e mailed them and did not receive the courtesy of a reply - we did manage to find another tour at the dock side and finally left some 1 1/2 hours later. Well worth a visit for the stunning scenery of Mount Osorno and the Petrohue Falls.

We were also told GV Tours regularly leaves people in the lurch - our advice find another company.

If you are in the area, this is a must do!

Head north from Puerto Montt to Lake Llanquihue (Puerto Varas is a good base). Take the 190 km drive around the lake visiting in particular Fruitillar and Puerto Octay. When near Ensenada, head up a clearly marked drive to Volcan Osorno.

This drive can also include a side trip to Petrohue to see the national park and Los Saltos de Petrohue. The colour of the water has to be seen to be believed.

I had great communication with this company prior to our tour, including a final confirmation of our arrangements. We followed their instructions of where to meet and this worked perfectly, as they were exactly where they said they would be with a sign with our name on it. We had a guide (Darla) and a separate driver and the van was comfortable and appropriately sized. The tour was as described, although excessive road construction held us up for a little while. Lunch was included in the price and was delicious with a wonderful view of the Orsono Volcano from the window.

I would highly recommend GV Tours and would no hesitation of using them again.

for a closer look at Volcan Osorno, a day trip from Puerto Varas to Parque Nacional Vincente Perez Rosales is worth while. You can take the bus from Puerto Varas to Petrohue and enter the park fro a few dollars. The walk to the look out and back is a few hours and the views of the lakes and volcanoes are stunning. You can then walk or take a mini bus the 6 km to Saltos del Petrohue, some lovely water falls just out of Petrohue. Definitely worth the trip if you fancy a nice walk and the weather is clear!
