I travelled from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt during December. We were incredibly lucky with the weather and the wildlife (spotting whales quite early in the voyage). The cabins are small but very comfortable and the food is copious and of a canteen quality. The...More

Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales by bus (2 Replies)
I am planning to travel from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales in October this year. Are there any bus companies who offer this trip? How much does it normally cost? My other option is to do the ferry trip with Navimag but I find it too expensive.

Yes there are companies which go Puerto Montt to Osorno and through Argentina and back to Punta Arenas. It takes about 30 hours. But note that if you carry a Canadian passport you will have to pay an Argentine reciprocity fee before they will let you board the bus in Chile. Unless you had planned to go to Argentina anyway, that added to the other costs might come out to more than a flight between Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas and bus from there to Puerto Natales..

Hi all, two Brits, one Yank and a hybrid (me) are arriving in Santiago Friday Nov 21st and we need to be in Puerto Montt on Monday 24th for the Navimag ferry. Now I did a search and it revealed that theres no overnight train anymore, only train to Chillan, need to get bus or fly and that Dancing Molly seems to be the expert, so I ask........... What is the best way to go? We figured we could see what we need to on that Fri in Santi then make our way south. Should we get the train to Chillan...More
