This was a phenomenal day of hiking and really easy to get to and from from Pucon. The 8:30 AM bus from the Bus Caburgua station right across from theJAC station was easy and convenient. Just get a ticket at the booth before getting on the bus.
It is 7000 pesos for foreigners to get into the park and the trail is generally very well marked. If in doubt just download the maps.me app before hand.
5 PM return bus was right on time and without having to hurry you will be able to complete the hike. If it is wet you might want a hiking pole as there are a few sections that can be steep and slippery. Otherwise the trail is good with just a few places of moderate hand scrambling.

What an amazing place. It is absolutely unbelievable how deep in nature you can dive yourself just driving a few minutes from Pucón. Just one thing, be prepared to walk, 3 hours climbing to the lakes could be a little bit hard for an average person (like me).

Option 1 is park in the first car park for normal cars and walk 2km up the track. If you have a 4x4 it’s a relatively easy 2km to another car park costing £3. As we were doing a 14 mile 3000 foot of climbing route we went for this. You can tailor the walk according to how much climbing and distance you want to do but even to the first lake is a good enough effort. Fabulous views and highly recommend the full trip. Top tip. Make sure you photograph the board at the ranger office.
Also when you do the part to the final view point / refuge and come to a fallen tree keep LEFT of the tree. The usually helpful blue markers disappear but there is a route through. Honest b

Beautiful hike in a beautiful national park.
I went early to avoid the crowds. I got there at 9am. I saw maybe six people during the whole morning. When I was coming down, the crowds were going up. When I left the park at around 2pm the parking lots were overflowing.
I did the big loop to the extra two small lakes. The lakes weren't that pretty but walking through the Araucaria araucana forest up near these two smaller lakes was worth it.
I parked my car near the trailhead. The rangers advised me that I could park near the main gate, or I could drive the extra 2km in since my Subaru XV has 4wd. The road was mostly fine, there was only one very small section where clearance was needed because of some big bumps on an uphill section. It was easier driving coming back.
I was following maps.me which said there is parking on the right near the trailhead. This parking was not open and did not look like it had been open for a long time, if it even was parking. You can park at the little shop/kiosk just before the trailhead, but you must pay 2000 pesos. There were signs everywhere saying not to park on the side of the road.

The areas we trekked were not tough terrain. While steep in parts, trail base is soft and hilly areas only short before some levelling off for respite. The park has beautiful forests, waterfalls and provides breathtaking views of snow capped volcaniv peaks plus some of the areas lakes. A few signposts at trail intersections, but generally porrly marked and sometimes limited parking. Best guided for fuller enjoyment and suggest 4WD as some of the access roads, while accessible by 2WD, are unmade and heavily rutted. Facilities limited so BYO.

The hike to the three alpine lakes is a moderate hike through old growth forests with views of Volcan Villerica on the way up. The road leading there is rough but completely doable in a 2wd vehicle. You can grab a sandwich to take with you after you pay your fee but before you starting making the ascent out of the valley. This is a popular hike with lots of families and kids but it’s still possible to find solitude.

Beautiful sightings from the lakes and volcano Villarrica. The trekking is 9k long (total of 18k, to Laguna Verde and back). You can also take additional paths to see some waterfalls (approximately 1k each). Mostly shadowed from the trees, but beware of the ascending paths, which may offer some difficulty if you are not used to trekking. The views are worth it!
No need to go with agencies, you can take the bus at 8:30 at Calle Uruguay 340 (50min to the Huerquehue Park) and return at 14:10 or 17:10 (summer, from Dec-Mar, also at 18:20 and 19:30).

Super nice national park. Small and big tour. You definitely need a day there. Buses only leave a couple of times a day so make sure you catch it or take an uber

I'd say you need to go well prepared, with good shoes and outfit.
It is a medium intensity trekking, but totally worth it. You will get wet and will need to stop quite a few times (it is literally an up hill battle haha), but guys, it is majestic. Beautiful green sceneries. A green you probably haven't seen. Definitely a must.

We did the Hueerquehue a los lagos, It is a 7 mi. rt hike that is moderately trafficked and mainly out and back with a small loop at the end. The hike includes about 2,000 feet of elevation gain. It is a lovely hike through woods with some views in the middle and at the end. We did it on a dry day which was good as it was not muddy. They say that people average about 5 hrs. It took us a little longer with several stops and a picnic at the top. Part of the drive to get there is on a bumpy dirt/gravel road. We did not have a four wheel car and made it fine, but a four wheel car with high clearance would be easier. Slight discount for those over 60.

No manejo precios. Saludos cordiales. Edinson

I am working on an essay for class and every site I go to always have the same thing. What can you tell me about the park in your own experience there? Weather? Camping? The lakes? Did you enjoy the experience? Any information would be helpful.

I just went for the day and it was a wonderful experience. There are two main trails to explore. the lakes trail is more for intermediate trekkers and then San Sebastian is a bit tougher but 100% worth it because the view up top is amazing. reach out on my intsa if you want more information: mujicaaaandrea
