This was one of the best things I’ve done so far in my live. As frequent travellers Stephan and me decided to go for the 4 days Volcano Tour - despite the fact that we are not familiar with horse riding at all. The very first day Carmen explained everything and checked if the horses suit us and other way round. We could get to know out horses. The other sunny days 2,3 & 4 our experienced & trustworthy guides Moni & Luis took steadily good care of us and answered all of our frequent questions patiently. Not to mention the carefully prepared meals. This was an amazing outdoor adventure in the beautiful landscape of Villarica National Park. Both of us would do it anytime again. We felt very welcome and happy. Lucky us!

Our half-day ride was a lovely way to see Pucon's gorgeous scenery. Carmen easily differentiated the riding experience for my friend and I who have varied levels of horse experience and comfort; she perfectly matched the horses with our personalities. The 3.5 hour tour took us along a river, through cool, shady wooded area and provided stunning views of the volcanoes. Carmen's passion for her horses and ranch shine through 100%. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing time on our half day ride with Carmen. We had three riders with completely different experience levels. Carmen was so kind, friendly and positive. She kept our beginner safe and happy, gave me a bunch of intermediate tips that helped my riding, and gave my wife some more advanced rider freedoms. The scenery was beautiful and the horses were all great. I defiantly recommend Rancho Carhuello.

My partner and I went on the 2 day adventure, up through virgin rainforest to a hanging valley. The return journey took us along the banks of the tributaries to the Rio Pucòn. I am an experienced though rusty rider and my partner had almost no experience and the ride was fantastic for both of us! We spent time getting to know our horses before leaving, being talked through their characters and our fab guides, Luis and Moni, were brilliant, encouraging, and knowledgable of the landscape. In the evening we had a lovely meal, traditional asado for the meat eaters and a lovely veggie option also cooked over the open fire for me. I really appreciated the effort of catering for me and we had a fab evening :) is highly recommend anyone take the chance to do this. We are traveling by bike, and this gave us the chance to see parts of the landscape we would never have been able to, even on our mountain bikes.

Yesterday I went on a full day ride with Carmen and two other guests. The day started out with Carmen (one of the owners) picking us up at our hostels in Pucon right on time, and then driving us to her beautiful ranch about 20 minutes outside of town. When we arrived our horses were already saddled and waiting for us. They make sure to ask about any prior riding experience when you sign up for a ride, in order to match you to a horse that is right for your abilities.
Carmen did a wonderful job matching us, a group with experience ranging from 15 rides to 15 years if riding, to appropriate horses. I rode Lupita, a beautiful young mare that did her job with enthusiasm! All of the horses were extremely well cared for, happy, and they all seemed to enjoy their work.
The ride itself started from the ranch and we rode up the road through a Mapuchi Village. We had opportunities to trot and gallop here as we figured out our horses and grew accustomed to the chilean way of riding. Carmen took time to explain the history and current affairs of the area, and answer all of our many questions.
The ride continued up a steep trail when we reached the rainforest, where Carmen told us about some of the native plants and animals. There was even an opportunity to pick fresh blackberries from horseback! The criollo horses are very strong and surefooted, and I felt safe and comfortable riding up and down steep hills, across bridges and through small water crossings without hesitation. All the while we had beautiful glimpses of the Villarrica volcano, and Carmen took pictures of us as we rode.
We reached a beautiful clearing in the forest at the top of the mountain, where we let the horses rest and graze, and Carmen set up a picnic where we had lunch (farm fresh eggs, and vegetables, sandwiches, cookies, wine and juice) with a great view! After the horses were well rested and we were well fed, we mounted up again and rode back down the mountain. There were more opportunities for trotting and galloping before we returned to the ranch.
This was far from the nose-to-tail trail rides that are common in the US. This felt much more like we were out riding with a good friend. This was by far one of the best trail rides of my life, and I only wish that I’ll have time to join one of their 4 day rides before leaving Chile!

I went on a half-day ride last week and absolutely loved it! We were four with different levels of experience and even the ones who had never ridden a horse loved it! Carmen made sure everyone felt comfortable and paired us with horses perfect for our level and structure. Honestly can't recommend it enough, we had a perfect afternoon with fun and good conversation, and even if the weather isn't the best (for us it wasn't as it was rainy so we couldn't see the vulcanos) I still think is more than worth it.
Plus their horses are really friendly as is their dog and cat, they really seem like an amazing family.
Really hope to come back one day to do the 4 or 6 day ride

We just returned from a 4-day horse trek, and I simply can't get over how lucky I feel. Carmen has a brilliant knack for matching horses with riders in a way that ensures her guests have the most memorable experience possible. I wanted to put my horse, Lunita, in my luggage and take her home with me! Luis is a brilliant horseman who kept our group safe during some challenging ascents and descents, sometimes having us dismount to allow the horses to pass on their own through low-hanging branches or tricky terrain. Judith, our guide, was patient and kind, pausing the trek occasionally to resolve minor issues (such as a hat snagged by a blackberry bush) and preparing our meals with seemingly ceaseless energy. The whole operation was magical from the moment we arrived at Rancho Carhuelo and met the dogs, chickens, ducks, kitten, and of course, the horses. Carmen's parents were visiting from Germany and welcomed us like family, sharing stories and laughing around the dinner table on our first night. Once we left the farm for our trek, the magic continued with perfect weather, autumn foliage, a full moon, hot springs, rushing rivers, stunning lakes, snow-capped volcanos, and simply too many beautiful sites to name. I frequently found myself with a smile of pure contentment as I breathed in the fresh air, soaked up the sunshine, and marveled at the scenery from the saddle. My heart is full, and I can honestly say this four-day weekend felt like a month of Sundays. Possibly my favorite experience after six years of living in Chile!

I had a wonderful full day ride here! I was lucky that I had a private ride with Carmen, as I had asked to join a ride with only experienced riders and there happened to be only beginners that had booked other rides. From the moment I contacted the Rancho through WhatsApp, Carmen has been super helpful, friendly and professional. Extra plus is that she speaks fluent English, Spanish and German, so communication is very easy. They provide an excellent pick up and drop off service to Pucon, which makes visiting the Rancho very easy if you don’t have a car. The Rancho is located in a gorgeous place, surrounded by volcanos! Carmen found me a perfect horse that couldn’t have matched my personality and riding experience any better. We were a wonderful team and my horse listened very well and was just amazing. Carmen truly cares for her horses, chickens, dogs, ducks, family and riders! Her little daughter is adorable! Carmen is super fun, friendly and knowledgeable and always makes sure you and the horse are safe and happy. I really enjoyed the full day ride, which had some very adventurous climbs/descents but I always felt safe with the instructions Carmen gave and my horse was able to do everything and seemed to enjoy the whole experience too! The nature and scenery is beautiful with lots of variation. I had a delicious lunch that upon my request was vegetarian, with a beautiful view to relax. Carmen made lots of photos, so I have many great memories from a beautiful day of riding to take with me. This Rancho really stands out as they truly care about their horses, riders and delivering a top experience in the nature. To top it all up: when we got back to the Rancho I saw the Villarica volcano erupting from my horse, incredible!! Thanks for everything!!

My wife and I are experienced riders. I used to show jumpers , until the age of about 55, and my wife is a horse veterinarian. We went on 2 separate rides with Carmen and had a wonderful time both days. The horses were excellent to ride, especially in the steep mountains, extremely well behaved, sure footed, and smooth/comfortable. It was especially enjoyable riding with Carmen, she is an excellent guide. She really cares about the horses and the clients. I highly recommend riding with her.
If you can possibly visit them during the solar eclipse on Dec. 14 2020, do it! The Pucon area is one of the best viewing locations and viewing in the mountains on horses is something not to missed if possible.
