Volunteer Point is a long long way over rough terrain in 4 wheel drive vehicles. Over 2 hours there and 75 minutes there and over 2 hours back over rough terrain is not the best way to see penguins!! Although you are seeing rare King...More
This is a bucket list destination. We went on a Holland America Excursion. It is a slow four wheel drive trip across fields of peat to get to the colonies. Once you get there, it is up close and personal with King, Gentoo and Madgellenic...More
We booked a tour of Volunteer Point with Nyree of Estancia Excursions. It was the trip of a lifetime. There are thousands of nesting King Penguins as well as other varieties. Nyree met our cruise ship as soon as the tender docked. We were early...More

The tour companies generally collect money once you are on the tour so you don’t have to pay if the ship doesn’t get in. We asked our guide how often the ships can’t get in and he said it wasn’t very often. We used Patrick Watts tours and paid once we were at Volunteer Point. Fantastic experience!
