Went to Volunteer Point as a private excursion as the cruise boat was not offering it in their line up. Had read previous posts that this was the place for penguins and was not disappointed. Contacted Patrick Watts and he ended up taking about 40 of us in a fleet of 4x4's all privately owned. You caravan out because one... More

To appreciate the extent of our delight with this experience: it took 2 hours on an extremely bumpy ride in a 4 wheel jeep being tossed around like a beanbag, to get to this beach; and another 2 hours on the same bouncy road to get back to Port Stanley. And we would do it all again just to see... More

We had several 4wd vehicles in our group, 4 per vehicle. Tamara our guide and driver was wonderful. It is a strenuous drive to Volunteer Point over very rough terrain (peat bogs), but the guides are very experienced and knowledgeable. Once at the site it is totally amazing!!! Thousands of King penguins, and Magellan and Gentoo penguins as well. Adults,... More

We were travelling by cruise ship and had about seven hours in the Falkland Islands, and we had signed up for the 4 x 4 trip to Volunteer Point. It was the highlight of our cruise. First, our driver, Toni, was amazing. She was an excellent driver and amazing tour guide. Being a sixth generation Falkland Islander she knew how... More

Jim met our explorer vessel at 8.0 and with his comfortable Landcruiser took us to the Volunteer Point penguin colonies ( King , Gentoo and Magellanic penguins ) in the beautiful setting of Volunteer point beach reserve . his knowledge was excellent and while we wandered for 2 1/4 hours on our own around the colonies in the crisp wind... We were picked up on schedule by a Patrick Watts driver, Derek, a very I formative and entertaining guide. The 4wd drive overeat bogs is quite rough but one gets a really good idea of the beautifully bleak landscape. And when you get to your destination, simply mind blowing! Thousands of gorgeous king penguins and their pups, and a lovely... More

WOW. This is the best place in the world to see thousands and thousands of King Penguins, from babies to grown ups. A tranquil place to walk, take pics of a lifetime, and experience firsthand.

We hired Jimmy Curtis to transport us to Volunteer Port (you can find him on Facebook). The entire day was beyond our expectations. By far, it was the highlight of the entire cruise. Our time in Stanley and at Volunteer Point was exceptional from the moment we stepped off our tender until we returned. - The travel there and back... More

We stayed 3 night there. Derek and Trudi were very nice people. Derek shown to us the best spots to visit. He gave us even more than we expected : a free safari 4x4 tour far at the tip of the point where nobody go ! The wildlife there was fabulous ! We really felt at the end of the... More

Firstly the logistics. Volunteer Point is 2 hour plus of off road driving experience. An organised trip is a must as this will have backup vehicles with you in case of getting stuck, it does happen. Local trips can be arranged in advance and will include the admission fee which is needed to enter Volunteer Point. Probably pay around £80... More
