Full The Library (Secret Bar) review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2015/05/the-library-secret-bar.html

Styled in the vein of underground prohibition bars in the United States Of America, The Library (Secret Bar) in Keong Siak Road is an experience unlike any other. Outwardly, the unmarked, no signage facade looks unassuming, and unless you're looking for it, you wouldn't even know there was a bar here. Step in to The Library (Secret Bar), and staff out front pretend not to know what's here, unless you state that you wish to enter the bar. You'll then have to provide a password, then pass through a hidden door into a red lighted room full of mirrors, then pass through another hidden door to finally reach The Library (Secret Bar) proper.

Ambience at The Library (Secret Bar) is a styled after the underground prohibition-era bars of old, with retro industrial vibes, dim mood lighting which leaves the place mostly in darkness, and hard metal finishings on the bar. Books and trinkets adorn the shelves, like a dusty abandoned library, while plush comfortable booths line the rough cobblestone walls. Ambient jazzy tunes fill the small bar, and despite meaning to look like a run-down, hard place, it's actually rather pleasant.

Service at The Library (Secret Bar) is decent. Staff out front keep up the facade that there isn't a bar here, so they don't greet you upon entry, only asking for the password. If you don't have the password, which changes weekly (check The Study's facebook page for it), you'll have to either sing a song, dance, or tell a joke. Once inside, staff are friendly and quick to seat you and take orders. They'll knowledgable enough to make recommendations, though the menu helpfully lists all the ingredients for each cocktail. The Library (Secret Bar) staff are also efficient at clearing after customers leave, and will offer goodbyes.

Food at The Library (Secret Bar) is limited to a small selection of snacks and appetizers, more bar food type. As befits its theme, the food is mostly American cuisine. They have a wider selection of drinks here, and a good range of creative house cocktails. Prices are decent for a bar, most cocktails cost SGD $23, and snacks are about SGD $16. Overall, I would return again to The Library (Secret Bar), as it's a novel experience, and also more relaxing compared to other bars in the area.

The Cheese Toastie (SGD $9) features gooey, melted manchego Spanish cheese, enhanced with truffle oil and a fragrant garlic aioli, sandwiched between 2 slices of crisp, toasted bread. The texture is smooth, gooey, buttery, with a fragrant, earthy aroma. Much better than it's described, highly recommended!

The Cocktail The Library Brand - Essence Of Speakeasy (SGD $23) is a potent, nearly medicinal, mixture of smoked genever, maraschino cherry, dry curacao, and speakeasy essence... wholesome, bitter sweet, and strong, this is a man's drink.

Came on a Saturday night after dinner. Stayed for one drink each. A dragon breathe and a dirty & stinky. Super tasty. For my taste, the dirty & stinky was the better of the two. But both outstanding.

The bartenders garnish the cocktails with a complementary flavor. So the dragon breathe came with a marshmallow dusted with cinnamon and the dirty & stinky with some sort of dark chocolate wafer. The pairings were counterintuitive. But excellent. The bartenders also 'perform' as it were in making the drinks. It's a pleasure of watch anyone talented do what they're talented at.

The atmosphere was a lot of fun - including the passworded entrance, the bar was made of riveted copper plates, menus that read better with certain lighting conditions, weird naked mannequins by the bathroom, and so on. Obviously the owner/manager put a lot of thought into it. And it pays off. The Library is a great experience, goes beyond the drinks.

As some reviewers have noted already, it is more expensive than many cocktail bars but it's well worth it. Would love to return and try some other cocktails.

Are you looking for something fun? First, you have to get the "password" to enter the "secret door" but it won't be a surprise if I have to tell you here...

Once you enter, at first it's a "dungeon feel" until you get used to the setting of an "underground library" How awesome is that?

You'll be surprised what this place has to offer. Wait until you figure it out how to read the "cool" menu here...

What to order? Drinks and food of course! Try all the bar menu. None of it will disappoint you. And for the drinks? That's up to you and how you want to spend you the night in this city. My fave is The Fish Skin, Beef Cheek Bun, The Kimchi Burger and The Hot Dog. For the drinks Duck in the bath and Rice & Shine are quite cool.

Enjoy the night and please drink responsibly. Cheers!

This hidden bar is not cheap but it is worth every penny. Cocktails are elaborated and the ambiance is something else altogether. When I have some friends bored of the usual bars I take them there and it's a hit all the time!

I like the concept of having a secret bar with a password. It makes it a bit more exclusive. it's fairly easy to get in though. We simply asked the waiter over at The Study and we got in in no time.

Anyway, unfortunately, that's when the pros ended. Our food wasn't keyed in by accident and we waited about 30mins for it. No compensation was done about it though. The burgers that were requested to be medium rare came fully cooked through. The girls ordered the roasted duck and ox cheek.. they were alright, super pricey and small portions.. I still was hungry after my roasted duck (which came medium rare, not roasted through as expected).

I found it odd that the tables were so small and the seating was more of elongated cushioned stools. For the prices you pay you'd expect something better.

We also ordered the Rub-A-Dub-Dub bathtub ($90). It had a big block of ice that could be smaller to accommodate more alcohol. The drink filled about 3/4 of 5 small cups, and that includes the large amount of foam it had.

Overall, it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience, certainly not value for money, there are other bars that do better.

I get the fact that The Library is trying to differentiate itself with the whole password thing. But taking it to the level were guest are turned away (on a Tuesday by the way) and made to feel like idiots is unacceptable. On top of that when this treatment was brought to the attention of the manager the message from him was "this is what makes us different, if we didn't do that we would be like any other bar". No "I'm sorry, its all a bit of joke", etc. I have been for the cocktails before and they are good, served by attentive staff but taking yourself too seriously is not going to work. Interestingly the bar that time was pretty empty on Sat night. I would suspect things will stay like that with the current management team in place. I certainly won't be going back or to the restaurant for that matter.

What an excellent concept - saying a password to enter and then going into a mixology chamber! The bar staff are just so attentive and very knowledgeable. You get greeted, served straight away and the staff are very attentive to water top-ups and when you need your next cocktail and you will definitely want to try a few! The cocktails are divine and it's just a great place to go for pre and post dinner drinks. Highly recommended!

Speakeasy normally means only a few people know how to find and how to get into a bar. For the library this means, that they are only playing with this metapher since it is well known and you even get help in the entrance room if you don't know how to get in.

Once you pass the mirror doors you will enter an interesting location with the metal coated bar placed in the middle. Bar stooles placed in front of it and normal tables at the side.

The most important part is of course the bar and if you are able to sit in front of the bartenders: do it. It is a lot of fun watching them preparing the drinks. There is no drink that looks like the other. Each drink gets its own preperation style. And this includes wrapping rosemary around a glas to enhance the taste, glewing marshmallows on the bottom, using dry ice for special effects etc.

All my drinks there were excellent and i can only recommend this bar.
The small burger that i got was really quite small but tasted very well too
