About
Founded by Singaporean philanthropist and real estate developer Daniel Teo, The Private Museum is a registered charity and registered Institute of Public Character (IPC), situated in the heart of the Museum Precinct in an arts and cultural centre at 51 Waterloo Street - within walking distance of the Singapore Art Museum. This unique museum was established with the objectives of providing a space for art collectors to showcase their collections in a curated display as well as an alternative platform for artists to push boundaries in the expressions of various art forms. The museum's public outreach program also aims to bring collectors and artists closer to the general public and to foster interest and support for art.

Although a little hard to find, this gallery is a real gem and an asset to what is quite a commercial art scene in Singapore. It is a charity and therefore relies on donations and the support of the public and private sectors. They exist to give artists a rare opportunity to showcase their work without the motive of profit. In a money-driven society like Singapore, the Private Museum is refreshing in its approach, and worth supporting. The building it is in is also worth checking out.

What is this? Every public information about @theprivatemuseum states explicitly that it is open Saturday 11am to 5pm. After a long warm walk we arrive at 11:45am and entry is closed. #badservice

Hi Martin, thank you for dropping by and bringing this to our attention. Our lunchtime protocol is for an hour. On Saturday 15th February, due to limited staff, the sign was placed for a 12:30pm to 1:30pm lunch break. Your interest towards the arts is well-appreciated and this incident was indeed an unfortunate one. We hope you understand that our museum is a non-profit organisation and a registered charity providing free entry and access to all visitors, resources can be at times limited. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
