I like travels and exploration. But thi s Covid-19 has disrupted my overseas travel plans. However, I am not going to bow down to such restriction. So, I decided to continue to explore even if it is just around my little red dot island.
This morning, I took an hour walk to this quarry from my house at Villa Verde. Initially, my intention was to visit Rail Mall but ended up at this quarry before going to the Mall. There is a lane from across the Dairy Farm Residence that leads directly to the quarry. It is about 1.2 km walk. This was the first time I discovered this lane.
There were enthusiastic joggers and brisk walkers plying the lane and everyone seem so excited in their morning exercise. There were few little monkeys jumping from trees to trees reminding me that this area is part of the nature reserve. The pathway leading to the quarry is enveloped by tall trees and the air was cool and refreshing. At some points, I pulled down my mask to take in a deep breath of the `positive ions' floating in nature.
After hiding in the house for almost 2 months, nature has appeared to me so much attractive and lovely.
The quarry was located right at the end of the lane. There is signage that informed that the quarry opening hours are from 9 am to 6 pm. The contours of the site looks similar to the landscape of Little Guilin at Bukit Batok but of a smaller scale.
The atmosphere was serene and calm with the brown hill cliff looms over the reservoir of `green' water'. The concrete observation deck seem like a theater platform suitable for filming Chinese pugilistic sword fighting.
Frankly speaking if you have visited Little Guilin beside Bukit Gombak MRT station, this quarry is nothing spectacular. It took me an hour to walk from my house to the quarry site but it took me less than 15 mins to appreciate the scenery. Nevertheless, it is another exploration that I treasured.
The nearest MRT station here is the Cashew MRT station. You can combine your visit with visits to the Rail Mall and the Green Corridor.

There are many ways to reach the Singapore Quarry. 1) The shortest walking route is from behind the Rail Mall walking past the Fuyong Interim Park. 2) A longer route is to start from Diary Farm carpark A which is near to Hillview mrt station 3) The third way is to start from Diary Farm carpark B. Beside the advantage of a toilet at this carpark, the Diary Farm Quarry (it is land-filled) can be visited en route to the Sinapore Quarry. The trail has a variety of vegetation on both sides and it is a calm and serene trail. The big open field at the Diary Farm Quarry is especially inviting as a venue for a picnic and for kids to run around. After visiting the Diary Farm Quarry, it is about another 1.3 km to the Singapore Quarry. The Singapore Quarry is scenic with fishes ( even Koi) and turtles in the water and a few types of half-submerged plants. It is a rather quiet place as most people do not linger here even there are seats in a shelter.

Due to COVID-19, we are unable to travel hence here we are exploring our own country. We took a walk from Dairy farm nature park to reach there and eventually end the walk at Rail mall. (Cut through the Fuyong estate)
Best timing to go will be in the morning. Not v crowded and not so hot. 😊

My companion and I walked the long way round from Hillview MRT. Along the way we saw unknown varieties of lizards, monitor lizards, monkeys, various birds, as well as various trees. The trail is mostly uphill. Don’t be deceived when you go downhill, there’s more uphill to come! It was tranquil the Saturday morning we were there. We saw at most a dozen others wandering along the trail. The road goes through forested areas and the area was well respected with no rubbish left about. In the quarry we also saw lots of fishes. The turtles were shy that morning. I’m no nature expert, but I loved every moment of the experience.
On the way back we took the short cut through the houses to get to the Rail Mall. The branch of Cold Storage was most welcome to get a chilled coconut water and also to enjoy the colder air inside.
If you’re looking for something different, that’s not too strenuous, if you want a memory of Singapore outside the usual tourist haunts I highly recommend this if you love, as I do, going off the beaten track anywhere in Singapore,

There is almost no traffic noise. Watch the turtles in the water. The monkeys play in the trees across the water. Birds sing their song. Just sit there for some time, don't talk, just relax.

Had a wonderful day half day at the Quarry on Saturday despite the rainfall. Notwithstanding, that gave rise to a spectacular waterfall appearing in the rock face. Plenty of flora and fauna.
Birds of note: Stork-billed kingfisher, greater racket tailed drongo, a yellow vented bulbul and an olive winged bulbul. The kingfisher was on the quarry face side so a bit for to photograph but clear on my lens. Monitor lizards were seen in the quarry. Snails eggs on the lake foliage.
Lots on monkeys busy on the winding road from car park A. A skink was resting enjoying the sun before the storm.
Butterflies and dragonflies also seen. Brilliant bursts of orange in the canopy from the Spathodea - Nandi flame tree. Old tree trunks with fungi growing and inhabited by millipedes - anoplodesmus sussuril.
The shortest route to the Quarry is from Rail Mall in Upper Bukit Timah - but in many ways the walk to the Quarry is where the abundance of nature is. The platform at the Quarry is limited but gives an opportunity to see the lake. It would be nice if there was another viewing platform at the other end of the Quarry.
Nature at its best - enjoy.

The Singapore Quarry is a remarkable oasis of calm close to Upper Bukit Timah Rd in Dairy Farm Nature Park. The quarrying left a sheer wall of rock and a large lake with reed beds, which now provides habitat for egrets and herons as well as carp. It is a very photogenic spot and there were very few people around when we visited on a Saturday morning.
The quarry is about a mile's walk from Carpark A of the nature park, off Dairy Farm Rd. The path to the quarry is asphalted and is ideal for kids on scooters or bikes - it is wide and undulating with a great descent after you have visited the quarry. A network of hiking paths and mountain biking trails radiate through the nature park. The green corridor - the old KTM railway line - is a few hundred metres away.
The drinks machine in carpark B only accepts coins, so if you want a cool drink at the end of your walk, make sure you have change! There is also a toilet in Carpark B. There is no charge for parking or entry to the nature park.

15 mins walk away from Hillview MRT station. Been here for many years for the quietness and quarry beauty. Hope to see more tourists come here to enjoy. Also do not throw litter into the water.

I visited this quarry as my final destination, starting from Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. It is quiet and peaceful here, even though I visited during a public holiday. From the platform, one can have a good view of the quarry with the surrounding water. Good for the eyes and soul to relax and unwind.
While I may not come here specifically, I would recommend to combine visiting this quarry with a hike to/from Dairy Farm Nature Park.
