Lovely area to visit and stroll the boardwalks/promenades, visit a restaurant, marvel at the high-rise buildings and their architecture or enjoy a river cruise and listen to the description of the various historical and contemporary landmarks as you pass by. So much different to my first visit in 1976 and my trip on the river in a bumboat. Back then it was dirty, polluted with waste and the Government were initiating a program of resettlement and cleanup in order to transform the area. The transition has been spectacular but the bustle of those early times is missing.

This walk along the Singapore river is 3 km long and there are 14 bridges across it. One can start the walk from the Esplanade end or from the Great World City end. The 14 bridges are Jubilee Bridge, Esplanade Bridge, Anderson Bridge, Cavenagh Bridge, Elgin Bridge, Coleman Bridge, Read bridge, Ord Bridge, Clemenceau Bridge, Alkaff bridge, Pulau Saigon Bridge, Robertson Bridge, Jiak Kim Bridge and Kim Seng Bridge. Anderson Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges in Singapore and Cavenagh Bridge is a suspension bridge. Anderson and Esplanade bridges formed part of the Singapore Grand Prix's Marina Bay Street Circuit. Alkaff Bridge is shaped like a tongkang which is a light boat used for transporting goods up and down the river. In 2004, it was painted by Pacita Abad and his team in 55 different colours. Kim Seng bridge is named after the Chinese merchant and philanthropist, Tan Kim Seng. He also has a fountain named after him at the Espanade Park. Jiak Kim Bridge is named after his grandson, Tan Jiak Kim, another philanthropist.
At the end of the walk after Kim Seng Bridge, one can adjourn to the nearby Zion food centre or dine at the Great World City in air-conditioned comfort. Highly recommended walk for both locls and tourists alike.

This area becomes a very colourful and lively place of an evening.
Great Al fresco restaurants and eateries
Sit and watch the colourful taxi boats come and go on the river or sip a drink and people watch.
If you have children bring them earlier for dinner.
I would not stay into the evening as there is often intoxicated people around.

The Singapore River is neither wide nor very long. In its final stretch before flowing into the sea there are some meanderings that limit the view. Some characteristic nineteenth-century bridges over the river built by English and Scottish engineers are interesting. You can take a boat trip along the river, but I didn't think it was worth it so I didn't take it.

Just a stroll through the tunnel under the Singapore river from Clarke Quay we entered a myriad dining area of eating options. cafe stalls and restaurants and bars beside the river.are very colourful at night, with lanfmark hotels scattered everywhere our eyes wandered, The giant Singapore Lion fountain is highlighted by floodlights as he rears from the boardwalk gushing water into the bay.at night. This is a great place to wander soaking up the anbience.

Somehow pricey (25 to 35 SGD), however the River Cruise at night with stop for laser show at Marina by the Bay provides a very nice point of view while avoiding the busyness on the land. Nice overview of the Clarke Quay, Riverside and other historical landmarks with some interesting explanation given. I would not recommend going just for the regular cruise during day time.

The Singapore River is considered the mother river of Singapore. The Singapore River runs through the urban area of Singapore, connecting many Singapore attractions along the way, and finally flows into the Singapore Strait. When traveling to Singapore, in addition to walking along the river, you can also take a unique cruise ship, the "Singapore River Sightseeing Cruise", to roam Singapore leisurely along the river and learn about Singapore's attractions from different perspectives on the river and sea. This time we walked the river embankment in the evening and took a boat trip on the Singapore River at night. It was a great experience.

On our 3 days trip to Singapore this time, we never wasted a chance to walk around this river, right from Four Points to Durian building both in broad daylight and colorful nights. The facility is amazing clean & tidy, surrounded by cafes, restaurants, sky scrappers, clark quay, bungee jumping, boat rides etc. plenty of options, safe and very secure. Must try yourself

I've been cycling along the river quite regularly during the nearly 11 weeks of the lockdown in Singapore. At the time with all the bars and restaurants closed along the way it was ideal for cycling. But now that everything has re-opened, cycling is more difficult and walking is better.

The Singapore River is a favorite spot for many Singaporeans, whether daytime or nighttime. Clarke Quay is famous for the nightlife, while Boat Quay is bustling with famous eateries. If you fancy something more off-the-beaten, the more residential side of Robertson Quay also offers many good eateries but without the tourist traps.

Where exactly does the light show happen at night on the river stretch and what part is the merlion also the river cruise ticket counter. Are these easily walkable distance or long distance from each other.what should be a good starting point. Clarke quay or bayfront itself ? Good and reasonablejapanese/cantonese/Indian restaurant recommendation for dinner. TIA

The Singapore River, 15 minutes walk from source to mouth, flows into the Marina Bay which is now a lake. River cruises starts from the Clark Quay side, going out river and into the Bay and return back to Clark Quay. Another cruise starts at the front of Marina Sands, going around the bay and into the river and back. I suggest you take the one at Marina Bay if you want to have dinner at Marina Sands where there are Chinese, Indian, and Japanese food. The light show starts at 8 pm and last 19 minutes. There is another show at 9 pm. It is free. The venue is just outside the main entrance to Marina Sands (Hotel, Shopping Mall, and Casino.) 2 minutes walk from the River Cruise jetty. You can walk to the opposite side (of the bay) where the Merlion can be found. You can walk all round the Bay if you have the time. For good Indian food you have to visit Little India and for many varieties of Chinese food Chinatown is the place. Orchard Road should have many good Japanese food. Try Takashimaya a very prominent shopping complex in Orchard Road the major road for shopping in Singapore. Sorry for the delay. If you come to Singapore you may contact me to take you around the Garden By The Bay, Chinatown, Little India, Orchard Road, Marina Bay, and Bukit Timah Reserve where good hiking is free.

Take them out after dark on the river cruise to see the sights all lit up - aim for a boat with large amount of seating at the back for the best views

I haven;t visited Singapore for over 15 years.
During this visit we stayed at the Concord Hotel which is now the Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, where we are hoping to stay again.
We used to walk along the river and pick up a 'bumboat' taxi to and from Clarke Quay.
I note the area between the hotel has now been built up and Robertson Quay has been developed.
I was wondering if the 'bumboat' taxis now run as far as Robertson Quay.
Hope someone can offer advice.

Hello - we visited Singapore at New Year for the first time since 2009 and much has changed in that time - looking at google I have found that the Singapore River Cruise Commuter service only runs for a limited period of time during the day - 8-10 am and 5-7pm from the Esplanade to Robinson Quay - Weekdays only - no service on weekend - you would have to look at Singapore River Cruise website for information on their other services
Given the changing geography of Singapore I would suggest revisiting your hotel choice - both Clarke Quay and Boat Quay are now full of entertainment, eating and drinking opportunities and an easy stroll away from a number of hotels such as the Novotel and Merchant Court which is practically on a MRT station and therefore offers direct access to changi airport - as I said much has changed
Good luck

I saw some pictures of people holding small lions/tigers on their knees taking pics with them. What is the price to do this together with a elephant tour and entrance to the zoo.
