- Mike SwallowBrisbane, Australia482 contributionsQuality local food for less than $10 and lots of it - fantastic!Been here before and can’t rate highly enough. Pls eat here at least some of time you are here or the other hawker centres as not only are you eating great local food at great prices but helping a community of families who work hard day in day out to provide for themselves and all of us. You will also struggle to find better local food at any restaurant and I can assure you that you will pay more than 10 times the money for it. Also pls be aware that there are those restaurant’s unfortunately here that will drag you in and you will end up paying way too much for a meal you could have had at the hawker centre for a fraction of the cost. I must add the local coffee is exceptional also ($1.40) and you can get a beer here which has gone up considerably since last time here at $10 a pint but still reasonable for what most of us would pay at home. Also this is the place to experiment so try that Indian dish that you don’t know what is in it but it smells amazing or the Michelin starred Nasi Lemak or the other countless other dishes from around the world that make up Singaporean cuisine.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 20, 2023
- JllesBeeTexas759 contributionsInteresting food experienceA must visit, note most places are walkable. Should you desire to visit, make sure to arrive around 15:00 as finding seating can be a challenge and plan out your preferred stalls ahead of visit . We went La pat at lunch, but most of the vendors weren't open, and the Satay stalls are only open in the evenings.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 2, 2024
- Mark FStaffordshire, United Kingdom109 contributionsBest street food in SingaporeMust be the best street food scene in Singapore by a mile. Victorian styled cast iron market structure with Hundreds of hawkers, seating for probably a couple of thousand people inside or out. It's open on all sides with huge fans keeping you cooler, and the variety is amazing. Spend some time walking around before you decide what to go for. Best to have a small portion of many things. We sat outside on the closed road known as Satay Street, the clue is in the name! Looking forward to going back one day.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 3, 2024

A dish of food is typically $8, and delicious. Only downside is the heat and humidity, but, hey, this is Singapore!Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 19, 2024

Even on a weekday evening the place was buzzing. Satay is the speciality here, and there were plenty of options on offer. The food to be honest was not worth the hype or heat and smoke. Have had better at mall food courts in Singapore albeit for a slight premium. It was also irritating to have the hawkers constantly hound you to buy from them. Those who enjoy crowded, bustling, hot and in your face probably would enjoy Lau Pa Sat. We did not.

As soon as you arrive you have the big decision. What will I eat tonight? It’s busy at night but you can find a table if you keep looking. It’s warm inside but there are fans on the ceiling. We ate here twice. Good value and very tasty meals. Worth a visit for sure.

Singapore is known for its Hawker Centers and this may be the most famous do to its appearance on Crazy Rich Asians. We spent the morning visiting temples and shopping in Chinatown. While it was a couple of blocks we simply felt we had to visit. I got chicken and rice and my wife got the dumplings. The food was great and we enjoyed the ambiance as well. The architecture is impressive and as a bonus the center is on Robinson Road for all the Robinsons out there like myself.

Really, truly the cleanest, best seating under canopy with ceiling fans and excellent food at a good price. Try the Indian food...I still dream about it! No other hawker stand compares.

Is this food market open on Sundays - lunch or evening?
Written March 30, 2016
Yes (both) we visited Sunday lunch at 2pmish and again at 10pm after the light and water show for dinner on a Sunday evening in September.

Hello,
This is Mrittika from India.
Am visiting Singapore from 23-Feb'15 till 1-Mar'15 for vacation along with my parents. Would like to know about the popular restaurants or cafés onsite? Also, how do I get there using public transportation from Hotel Park Sovereign-Albert?
Thanks.

There is not shortage of good places to eat in Singapore. Avoid the malls and touristy areas and you will have a great time. Lau Pa Sat is good to explore street food all in one shot. Raffles Place MRT station is closest and easy walk. Do not go to Raffles hotel that is a different location. There are many "raffles" in Singapore.
My absolute favorite over many visits in Long Beach restaurant - they have many locations so ask at the hotel, it is worth the cab ride. Get the black pepper crab, it is the best.
A few pieces of advice - download the MRT station guide app and get the tourist multi day pass for the MRT. With the map you can also see the underground routes to avoid some of the heat.
Enjoy! Singapore is beautiful with wonderful people.

Is it far to walk from the train station, and is it close to where the bus goes to Montelupone
Written December 28, 2014
Not far at all from Raffles MRT station - not the Raffles hotel. There are many "raffles" in Singapore, which can be confusing.
I am not familiar with Montelupone (the only one I know is in Italy!).
