Don't waste your time

We booked this through Flight Centre and was told it was a food tour. It was far from this and we only were able to sample 5 small items. A waste of time for the six of us.

Then a peranakan shop with a cooking demo and tasty snacks. Finally the museum with helpful suggestions from the guide to focus on different aspects. Doing the children 'stamp' collection... More

Having visited Singapore many times, I had never experienced the Peranakan Trail. Well worth doing. Needed longer however at the museum but I learned more about Singapore in 3 hours than I had ever done by exploring myself.

We booked a tour with Tour East in Singapore for the Peranakan Trail and very very disappointed. We had a very boring tour guide and the actual tour was no better. Most of the time was spent travelling in the bus, not to go anywhere, but to reroute what we had already traveled, probably to stretch the time out. A... More

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighborhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
