About
Affectionately known among locals as the "durian", Esplanade is one of the busiest arts centres in the world with about 3,000 performances presented yearly. Spot our prickly cladding in the middle of the central arts and cultural district, and take in the view from the Marina bay waterfront where our Outdoor Theatre is situated. Coming to Esplanade means that you're in for a complete lifestyle experience, from enjoying a night out at a show, to shopping and dining. And whether you're a first-timer, an ardent patron or fellow arts lover, you're most welcome here and we'll do our best to give you a great experience with the arts.

Esplanade- Theatres on the Bay remains one of the most intriguing space on this sunny island.
When the building model was first unveiled to the public, some thought it resembles insect eyes. Of course some of us are food crazy locals who prefer to associate it with durians.
Yet the architect originally depict it as a pair of microphones (aerial view).
Art is very much open to interpretation, and re-interpretation. Often, there is no absolute answers, just like life itself.

Most visitors to Singapore should definitely not leave Singapore without a selfie outside the durian structure. The place hosts quite a number of ticketed performances, so if you are here for one of the shows then it is fantastic due to its intimate acoustic. However, if you are just a traveler dropping by, there's not much impressive architecture to admire once you are inside.

We were there for two free Saturday evening concerts. One was in a lobby inside the building complex, the other was in the outdoor theater. Between the two, we ate dinner at one (of the many) places to eat. We did not explore this large complex, so do not know what is there. To get back to a MTR subway, we had to walk past many stores (at least it was inside and air conditioned).

A must visit place in SG.
Make sure to take a stroll on promenade, go on rooftop for a drink and some good pictures.
There is a library at level 3, a must see how well maintained Singapore public libraries are.
There is a so called food street that opens at 4pm till late selling local food, more of a tourist trap.
Better to go Lau Pa Sat for more authentic experience.

A walk around the bay during dust ~4km will greet you with the MBS, Double Helix bridge, and the Esplanade, to name a few. However, cyclists abound on the same Broadwalk as pedestrians. So do watch out while you enjoy the awesome night view.

Saw swan lake ukrainian ballet last night. VIP seat J row which was 7 or 8 rows from stage. Floor is not elevated, so someone in front of us was tall, blocked our view, and us blocked the view of those sitting behind people. Terrible designed of MBS theater seating.
I think only was far back perhaps 30 rows from the stage , the floor elevate a little.

Visited the spick-and-span Esplanade for a recital.
Its outdoors offers a splendid view of the MBS, Fullerton Hotel, CBD skyline, Helix Bridge and so on and so forth.
Easily accessible via Citylink Mall as well.

There were free art/cultural/music performances of some type each time I found myself in the area. They were quite varied in style and appeal so easy to choose something I knew of or wanted to experience for the first time. The architectural appeal is also there. It was never overcrowded at all and always spotless.

It's my first time to see the musical at the Esplanade Theatre. We plan to see the day show on a Saturday afternoon. Is there a dress code ? If we dress casual or in jeans, will we look odd?

I would like to ask about whether seat for cat 5 is able to let audience to view the play clearly ?
Written July 7, 2016
Cat5 seats are mainly on circle 3 (level3) , front of cat6 ( circle3, level3 )the cheapest ticket price that I had experienced, which, in my opinion, it' s still got decent view at the stage. Cat 6 is the 2row most rear of the theater.

Buenas tardes Celia:
