The area

Neighborhood: Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighborhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.

Foremost is the architecture of the surrounding area that captures the interest; Everywhere - wherever you point the camera - you see new angles and motifs worthy of 'perishing' for each self-written own travel photo album. But there are also a lot of fun details in the park, from nicely designed park lights, to small waterfalls and ingeniously planted trees ... The proximity to the open water surfaces also contributes to a sense of harmony. Returned to this place several times (also lived nearby).

This is a wonderful place for a walk at night. Later is better since you will find less people and more peaceful.

My family and I decided to stop at Esplanade Park to enjoy the NYE fireworks on the way home after a great day at Sentosa island. What a mistake!!
We saw the fireworks which were good, but things turned horrible from there. We planned to walk back to our hotel which wasn't far. Now one would think you could just follow the crowd along the footpaths back to the hotel, but no way. The planners and police had put up metal barricading the whole way round the perimeter of the park to keep pedestrians spilling out onto the unused roads. They had only left one or two exit points for the many thousands of spectators to exit.
After following the bemused crowd round the perimeter once and realising there was only 2 exits with masses of people crushed trying to get through. I asked 2 different police officers positioned around the park the directions to get out, and both of them had no idea!!
So we decided to join the mass of bodies and exit through one of the gates. The police would only let 100 hundred or so people through, then jam the gates shut again, and of course it would cause a mass of crushed bodies every time. we stood in the crush for probably about 1 hour before we finally stumbled our way through gate being severely pushed by the crowd.
Once we gained our freedom I as many other people were letting the police know how idiotic and dangerous the whole situation was.
My young family were very terrified by the whole situation and there were other children and older people being pushed, jostled and man handled by the crowd.
The police could have opened other exit points or allowed the crowd to walk on the unused road to disperse the crowd.

Esplanade Park is located along Connaught Drive, opposite Padang and City Hall. The park size is 2.4 hectares. It is bounded by Connaught Drive, Stamford Road, Esplanade Drive and the mouth of the Singapore River. Lot of interesting monument or things around the park for example, inside there is the Lim Bo Seng Memorial and a beautiful Victorian blue and white Tan Kim Seng Fountain, built in 1882 to commemorate the contributions to Singapore of the famous Chinese philanthropist.
Nice place to walk and take some pictures

Set in downtown Singapore and built in 1943, the historic Esplanade Park is one of the oldest of its kind in the country. The park is home to a great deal of historical landmarks and significant monuments, including the Cenotaph, Tan Kim Seng Fountain, Lim Bo Seng Memorial, Dalhousie Obelisk, Indian National Army Monument, and Queen Elizabeth Walk. The latter covers a significant area and was completed in 1953 in honour of Queen Elizabeth's coronation in the same year.

Trees, shrubs, and other green areas make up a lot of the park, and a great deal of effort has been taken to recreate habitats similar to those found in natural forests and woodlands. During the day, Esplanade Park is ideal for relaxing, or for taking a stroll and reflecting on Singapore’s history at the Lim Bo Seng Memorial and the Cenotaph. By night, it’s a great place to marvel at the Singapore cityscape and catch the impressive Marina Bay Sands light show.

Last week, my family and I went to the Esplanade for an outing. We had not gone to the Esplanade for around four years, so it was nice to see the transformation of the interesting concert hall. The park is located in front of the Esplanade and faces the Marina Resovoir.

Initially I thought such a park would be a waste of time. However, when I visited it I realized the potential for it to be a spot for viewing the Singapore skyline. It shows both Marina Bay Sands and the Central Business District area. This could also be done on the Singapore Flyer, the only difference, however, is that one could see it as the wind brushes one's faces. Don't worry, its free!

There were a number of restaurants around the area, such as a food court mainly targeted at tourists wishing to experience a taste of Singapore cuisine, and several other Asian restaurants collectively known as "Colours of Asia", or something like that. There was some variety, but not to the extent that it is truly a foodie's paradise.

Located there is also an amphitheater in which performances are held nightly. Its a great spot - outdoors and facing the resevoir. You don't get such a chance in such a small country like Singapore.

Overall, it is truly a remarkable place that is worth a visit just to view the Singapore skyline. However, there is not really a variety of food, even with the food court, so that takes one star off the board.
