Joo Chiat is a place that I have grew up before I was married with family and children, but still whenever I have the time I would go there by myself or with my family to have a hearty meal. Knowing the place inside out, seeing old been replaced by new. Though the current Joo Chiat may have the same... More

The Joo Chiat Food Walk was a wonderful way to learn about Singapore as well as try a great deal of delicious food. The tourguide is friendly, funny, and full of facts about interesting facts about Singaporean life. After walking through Joo Chiat and watching the sunset from the top of an apartment building, we visited two different locations and... More

Whether you live in Singapore or just spending some time here as a tourist, this tour is an absolute must! Joo Chiat/Katong is an incredibly interesting area & after going on this tour, you will not only learn about this fascinating area but will be so much knowledgeable about Singapore itself, due to Tony's vast knowledge. Don't come to this... More

I would strongly recommend doing this at the beginning of your stay in Singapore! Not only do you get to sample a LOT of amazing food, but Tony is also incredibly knowledgeable about the history and development of Singapore, and he is really passionate about imparting this knowledge to the tour group! Absolutely would recommend this to anybody visiting Singapore,... More

We are two couples on our first night in Singapore and met up with Tony and other tour group members (4 more couples) at the Betel Box hostel. Having never been to Singapore before, this was a great way to get up to speed on the city, society, do's and don'ts and most importantly, the food. Tony is an authority... More

What a night! We met Tony at the Betel Box hostel ( which looked excellent ) and our group of 13 started out on our tour of the Joo Chiat neighbourhood. During the approximately 7 hours we sat down to eat in 2 different restaurants and samples several dozen different dishes. What a feast it was! But best of all... More

I always heard about Singapore being a wonderful place to visit and being there a couple of times over the years; it was nice to still be able to find a hidden gem- Joo Chiat Food Walk. It was great to know the history and local knowledge; while enjoying all the great food during the tour. Tony Tan- the 'Renaissance... More

Reading the reviews made me want to try this and I'm glad I did. Tony was personable, articulate, knowledgeable and passionate about Singapore, it's history, culture, people and especially the food. Our night walk started about 7pm and finished up about 12:30-1am. It was a fascinating time that went by quickly. I got an appreciation of the many food styles... More

WOW, We have just come home from spending 7 nights in Singapore. We did all the usual touristy things which were great fun and on our final night we completed the Joo Chiat Foodie Walk hosted by Tony Tan from Betel Box. It was so much more than just a foodie tour, we also learnt about the culture and lifestyle... More

Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding.
