This street has always been very pppular & packed with tourists the whole day. Great place to explore, buy cheap souvenirs & eat cheap local food at the Hawker Centres. Still is.
Unfortunately, as with most cities everywhere in the world now, tourism is severely hit by COVID-19 virus.
Hopefully things will improve soon.

We went here for authentic Chinese dinner in the street. The place has indoor and outdoor dining and there are so many to choose from. There are so many travellers eating here and the place is so beautifully lit. You can walk around to look for something to buy from fruits, nuts, street food, souvenirs and clothing. After an exhausting stroll, you can dine outside while listening to chinese music being played on the speakers that is not annoying at all. This place is fast paced and servers are shouting just like in most Chinatown but they are friendly.
I have seen a lot of interesting buys but they are as cheap as I hoped them to be. But I enjoyed my Chicken Noodle Soup and the Citron Juice I ordered.

Lots of red, golden and yellow colours. Lots of stuff to buy, remember to bargain! Food Street has excellent small kiosk restaurants where you can eat excellent food. Very typical tourist attraction but at the same time unique experience. A world of its own. Worth visiting!

Business
I got suckered. Plain and simple. I was not looking for a suit and then I got approached by a guy who was pleasant enough and eventually convinced me to go and look for a new custom suit. I did, I paid, more than I had planned and the clothes turned out to be a disaster of cut, finish, quality and more. The name of the place that you want to avoid at all costs is Royal Myers Jewellers & Trading and you can spot it at No.9 Trengganu in Chinatown. Avoid your own disappointments, stay away and tell your friends to do the same.

Beware of shopping in People's Complex. There's a company, not sure it exists in books, called "Elvis Amber instyle" and they claim to sell silk duvets which are actually polyester duvets.

This man is less than honest and has no conscience at all. Carefully watch his over inflated prices and lying spiel to suck you in, be carefull of his strategically placed finger over the price when signing your credit card receipt and watch how the paperwork is sealed in an envelope when handed to you, he then has a minion whisk you quickly off to the to the Gold Factory before you check the transaction. Also for obvious reasons he is very reluctant to accept cash....he would get caught out with his slight of hand.

The Chinatown street market encompasses four main streets which include Pagoda, Temple, Smith and Sago streets and narrow lanes with an endless variety of tourist style stalls.
Tt is easy to spend several hours here shopping for bargains, although many cheap souvenirs are most abundant.
There is also plenty of pastries, several restaurants and cafes to indulge your taste buds along Chinatown Food Street.

Hi what’s the average price for a meal and also beers please.
Flybug_2012
Singapore, Singapore449 contributions
Average meal is about S$3.50 upwards in a hawker centre. I believe a bottle of tiger beer is around S$6.50
If you eat in a restaurant, it will be much higher because it includes GST and service charge.
If you plan to eat at Chinatown Hawker Centre, please note that the place will be closed for renovation from 1 March 2019 till May 2019.
Hope the above information helps.

We were there on a Sunday and most things were open by 11. Not sure on other days but I would assume that they would be open everyday till at least 8.

Generally all tourists come here so there is no fixed time as such. The market might be open till 9pm I guess.

I don't remember seeing any fake bags there. Mainly tourist things, fridge magnets, clothing, plates etc. For fake bags you are better of going to Indonesia of Thailand.
