I searched for this place before I came for my visit, because I was looking for art book shops. I didn't expect it to be so near to the Raffles Hotel (just behind it) and that it is a whole mall of books! I was here to see the Basheer Graphics book shop, only to find more surprises! It is... More

bras basah complex is located just next to the National Library. Good place for 2nd hand and out of print books, textbooks, exam papers. This is also a good place for art materials (Art Friend, Art Mark patronized by design school students and craft lovers), music instruments, old CD,DVDs, music scores. there is a multi-story Popular Bookstore selling new books,... I arrived the area too early before my lunch appointment at Restaurant nearby. I popped up to check out this place. At 11 a.m. was still pretty dark and quiet. Many shops selling Chinese books, stationary and copying, printing documents. Some of them do a business card. So, I just kept it in mind if I ever needed to print... More

If you're into artsy stationery and old textbooks / vintage / second-hand books, don't give this place a miss. Ask for a bargain, though. The shop named "Book Point" (two storeys high) quotes exorbitant prices, even higher than what you need to pay in a regular book shop. However, it has MANY titles, titles which you might want badly but... More

The Bras Basah Complex, also known as 书城, is a good place to get second-hand books, new books, art & craft materials and etc. It has recently undone renovation.

During the 70s, I was studying at a secondary school near the city and used to frequent this book complex for assessment books and leisure reading. Those shops manned by Indian shop keepers attracted me the most as they had many types of 10 years' series book guides that you hardly find at other book shops. It is like a... More

Looking for second-hand books? This complex could keep you busy for hours. Highly recommended. Be warned that the higher up you go, the more expensive the books seem to be.

This should be, at least in theory, a shopping center specialized in books. The first issue is that most books are Chinese, which is brilliant for them, but then they don't sell to Western tourists. Many shops were closed when we were there, although it was midday, and customers so scarce that you could count them on the finger of... More

By locating next to Raffles Hotel, I thought it might be a tourist spot or at least some shopping place. It is actually where locals, especially school kids go and get there stationaries, exam papers, musical instruments although my friend went there to get a frame for his painting. There are few places for framing. My visit was on Easter... More
