Just within 5min walking distance from Chinatown MRT (Exit A), Temple Street (just beside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple) has amazing wall murals that will capture your attention even from afar. Definitely great for anyone who likes to know a little more about the country and the local Chinese culture with some visuals. Great for photography as well.

Temple street is famous for its shops supplying professional kitchen tools and crockery. Another interesting shop is Peranakan Tiles Gallery at No 36.
There is an outstanding mural here by Yip Yew Chong, "Cantonese Opera". The artist often watched Cantonese operas as a boy because they were staged frequently in Chinatown during the various Chinese festivals. He even brought his girlfriend to watch the operas on dates. The backdrop, props, lighting and the fighting scenes fascinated him and he has fond memories of all these which probably inspired his style of art. As for this mural, notice 1) the actors' and actresses' costumes 2) the various backstage activities 3) the spectators' postures and expressions 4) the mobile food stalls taking the opportunity of the crowd for businesses.
The artist has done a great credit in enhancing Chinatown culturally and making the streets more beautiful. These murals have delighted both locals and tourists alike.

One of the many streets of chinatown. This one allows cars so gets busy and noisy. Like other streets, a mix of old and new. You have modern ice cream cremery next to traditional dessert etc.

The street name Temple refers to the Sri Mariamman Temple, the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, which is located at the South Bridge Road end of the street. It was established in 1827 by Narayana Pillay, who came from Penang in the company of Stamford Raffles during the latter's second visit to Singapore in May 1819. Pillay's original business was destroyed by fire but with help from Raffles, he was soon back to his feet and moved to Commercial Square.
Temple Street was home to many Teochew traders who sold Chinaware and household items. There were also itinerant tinsmiths and metalware workshops as well as blacksmiths making horseshoes.

The china town is a good location for understanding Singapore cultures in general. Some local dishes are good.

Temple Street is one of the four or five main short streets that comprise Singapore's Chinatown.
Previously is was known as Almeida Street after Joaquim d'Almeida, who owned land here. He was a Portuguese physician and merchant and opened a medical clinic, along with shops trading in Portuguese and Chinese goods.
In 1908, the name was changed to Temple Street to avoid confusion with other streets in Singapore that were also named after D'Almeida.
This name refers to the Sri Mariamman Temple, the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, which is located at the South Bridge Road end of the street.
Like the other streets in Chinatown, Temple Street oozes two hundred years of Singapore history and cultural and ethic development.

I pass this street daily on weekdays, on my way to work. Nothing much to see, just some delivery vans unloading merchandise by the side.
But it is so much different on weekends when the fun actually starts. You'll come across many tourists enjoying looking at endless items to purchase like trinkets, decors and Chinese food and fruits.
The entire street is dotted with dining places and retail stores. I guess the busiest season is in the month of Chinese New Year when many sellers bring their merchandise and crowd Temple Street for a month, to maximize the selling opportunities.
Best way to access Temple is thru Chinatown MRT station.

Temple street is another of the four main tourist streets in Chinatown (along with Mosque street, Pagoda street and Smith street). There are a bunch of restored shophouses to look at. Best to visit in the late afternoon and avoid the heat of the day.
