About
No visit to Sentosa is complete without meeting its most famous, 37-metre tall resident, the Sentosa Merlion. The legendary Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body - as a guardian of prosperity which personifies Singapore's history as an important seaport. The lion head depicts the folklore of Prince Sang Nila Utama's discovery of lion (singa) and City (pura) while the fish tail symbolises the fishing village of 'Temasek', also known as 'sea-town' in Javanese. Set foot in the Merlion's mouth to get up close and personal with the legend. But don't stop till you get to the crown! At 60 metres above sea level, you will actually be seeing Singapore through the perspective of the Guardian of Prosperity. Come soak up the 360⁰ commanding view and bask in the aura of this endearing national symbol. You'll see why legends, myths and stories all point to this regal creature for the swift recovery of Singapore's economy from the Asian financial crisis.

We took a guided tour of the Merlion. A short film introduced the story of the founder who decided to settled in this area because he saw a great lion here. The lion (with a mermaid’s tail) became a symbol of the country as a tribute to the importance of the sea to its people. Statues of the mother and baby can be found in Singapore harbor. The Sentosa Merlion (the father) faces them. We were able to walk up to the lion’s mouth where there were great views of Sentosa Island and Singapore beyond. Great fun!

It was my birthday, and the one thing I had to do was visit the Merlion. Have always been fascinated with this statue of a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. Standing guard over the harbour, this is a must see when in Singapore. Great place to get amazing photos not only of the breathtaking Merlion, but of the entire of the bay. To some it is just a statue spitting water in the harbour, for me it was everything that signifies Singapore.

Do not understand why the Sentosa management is removing this gigantic Merlion statue. This mythical creature (half lion half fish) statue was an icon of Singapore for years. Much better than MBS. Too bad, we have to say goodbye for now.

Saw this from the cable car and tried to go see it up close but it was blocked off as it's due to be demolished. "The iconic 37-meter Merlion statue in Singapore's Sentosa will soon be demolished to make way for a new development on the island, the Straits Times has reported. The report said the iconic structure would be demolished to make way for the S$90-million Sentosa Sensoryscape project."

A concrete statue of a lion spouting water. A lot smaller than I remember from 15 years ago. Easy to walk to and include in a visit to view other more memorable sights around the river and city.

This is one of the iconic places at Singapore and traveller couldn't missed to have a picture before leaving. The area is crowded coz many people wanted to have a great background shot for this landmark. It's good and big enough to this statue even in a distant. I visited in 2014/2015

We saw the Sentosa Merlion from the cable car. It is not the original in Marina Bay; however, this one is much larger. The Merlion kind of connects Sentosa island to the main island symbolically. You can miss it with its size.

The 37-metre in height Sentosa Merlion (lower body of a merman/mermaid, and neck and head of a lion) statue has been a symbol of Singapore since about 1995 when it was first sculptured. There are waterfalls and a pool at the base of the statue.

Went on a rainy day so there wasn’t much to experience. Managed to get a pic and that about it. It’s a one time thing to see. Wouldn’t trouble myself to visit again.
