Beach Walk

The weather was scorching hot this afternoon when I headed for Sentosa. But Telok Blangah Hill Top and Mount Faber Park are endowed with dense green forest with tall shady trees that shielded me from the piercing ultraviolet rays. It was windy but amazingly deafening was the cicada vibrating loud noise as I strolled past the thick green vegetation by the hillside. The challenging uphill climbs from Depot Road up Henderson Waves and Marang Trail was exhilarating, exerting pressure on the heart to pump hard and I was perspiring. After the boardwalk, I reached Resort World Station intending to board the Sentosa Express to Beach Station, but the queue for the monorail was terribly long. Today is a public holiday and Sentosa is flooded with crowd. I decided to walk to the beach. It was a very short walk passing by the newly opened Sentosa Sensory Scape. From Palawan Beach, I hopped on the free beach shuttle tram to Tanjong Beach. Tanjong Beach seems similar to the other two beaches. But I did not see any suspension bridge here. There is a little island not far from the shore and people just swam over to the island. Quite a substantial number of picnickers brought along their pet dogs and strolled with their dogs along the beach. Many ignored NEA advice on the hot weather and lie down half naked directly under the scorching sun. The pulsating music from the beach club added vibrance to the beach scene. Many sat with their friends at umbrella shaded seats or mats beside swaying coconut trees hydrating themselves with beers and drinks. I like the party atmosphere here. Took the tram back to Beach station and boarded the monorail back to Vivo City. Back at Mount Faber Peak, saw the latest chrome color and spherical shape 4th generation cable car moving towards the Peak. These latest cable cabins started taking passengers only recently on 20 Mar 2024 at the company 50th anniversary. On reaching home, I realised my step tracker had clocked 25 thousand steps. So near yet so far.

I loved the tranquility and relative secludedness of this beach. The views are superb and the short swim to a small island is great fun. Out of all the beaches on Sentosa I enjoyed this best. I was a bit worried about the jellyfish, but didn’t encounter any so a worry wasted I’d say. Pack your lunch since there are no cafes in immediate vicinity. To me, that was a plus since it meant it was less crowded.

There is shower facility provided by sentosa island so you just need to bring your own clean towel. As for the towels for the poolside bed and seat at the tanjong beach club, the will provide for you. I felt the service was non-existent. We had to walk to them to ask for towels, food, drinks. But its fun for kids and the food was great. Not cheap so really disappointed with the service.

If you want quiet, beautiful sand, nice walking/jogging path, place to walk your pets -this is it. About half a kilometer of beach with no disturbances. Great day to spend away from the crowds.

Sentosa has the only place to actually swim at a beach in Singapore. Each of its three beaches is different in character. Yes, they all have a bar. But Siloso (far right from monorail Beach stop) has loud techno music and volleyball tournaments on weekends. Palawan, right below monorail stop, is more family oriented, has a local (inexpensive) food court and a play area for kids. Tanjong, my favorite, is farthest to the left (east), and has a lot of dogs, especially in mornings. Go as far as you can from the bar, and you might forget you're in a city.

If you're a serious beach swimmer, be sure to check the tide tables before going to Sentosa. At low tide, the beaches can be abysmal, as there's not much water and its dirty. At high tide, it's fantastic. And except on holidays or late afternoons on weekends, it's surprisingly empty. Try going in the morning and plan to be amazed.

As some others have commented there are lots of dog owners who bring their dogs there for free bathe! Dogs running around shitting and peeing everywhere, some will even come close to you when suntaning.

There are old guys wearing black gstring, showing their bottoms and parts! They will make sounds and chase after you!

I love this beach, especially with the Tanjong Beach Club right there, you can order a nice lunch or drink, use their lounge chairs, even take a dip in their pool. But this review isn't about the beach club … it's the beach itself. The sand is gorgeous, but no shells. Maybe a few pieces of granite will have washed up, if you are lucky. There are no waves, so it's more like a lake in that respect. You will have an awesome view of the ships, which I find fascinating. I really enjoy swimming, but I find it very difficult to go in the water here. It usually has a nice rainbow oil sheen on it, and if you are still brave enough to go in, you will not smell good when you get out. I have been in the water here several times and sure enough, it happens every time. I have never been brave enough to get my hair wet, let alone my ears or eyes under the water. There is never anyone swimming here, ever. This is a dog friendly beach, so this is a great place to bring your furry friends! I love to watch the dogs play in the water!!

I wish we had come straight here and skipped all of the attractions on Sentosa! This is a nice, relatively quiet beach, perfect for relaxing away from the crowds. The water is a lovely temperature and very calm. Just a warning for those who aren't strong swimmers; it gets deep very quickly.

The only downside is that there aren't many free spots to sit in the shade but, if you're happy to pay the $50 minimum spend, you can grab a sun bed at the Tanjong Beach Club.

I personally don’t feel comfortable in the beaches of Sentosa. First of all, they are man-made beaches and too fauxie. They are made to earn money and not to enjoy a sunny day on the beach. Secondly, Singapore is a conservative country where an elderly local may scream at you because of your attire. Therefore, you have to be very careful about your bikini choice, don't use G-string or Micro bikini. Thirdly, there are too many tourists without any respect for privacy. They may suddenly point their phone or camera at you to take picture without asking for your permission. Fourthly, raining is a daily event in Singapore. Going to beach with poncho is a bit weird to me. However, compared to the other beaches in Santosa, this beach is quieter.

How to reach there by public transport: If you are coming from Orchard MRT station, take the red line towards Marina South Pier and alight at Raffles MRT station (Approx. 10 minutes). From City Hall, Raffles or Bugis MRT station, take the green MRT line (East West Line) train towards Joo Koon and alight at Outram park MRT station (Approx. 3 minutes). In Outram park MRT station, board the Purple line train towards Harbourfront and alight at Harbourfront MRT station in VIVO City Shopping Mall (Approx. 1 minute). Go to level 3 of VIVO City Shopping Mall, board Sentosa Express Train and alight at Beach station (Approx 5 Minutes). From there free shuttles are available to Tanjong Beach (Approx. 10 minutes). Total cost of transportation is below SG$7 (One way).

Facilities: Free Shower rooms, free toilets, lockers, beach restaurants and bar.

All the Sentosa Island beaches are amazing, and considering the huge number of ships parked off shore, the water is pretty clean.

Nice clean sandy beaches with heaps of nearby activities.
