if you like shopping this will be the write place , endless shops both sides , you can find everything there at cheap price . open early morning at 7am and not sure what times closes . it could be dangerous if you not careful enough , i have not gone through any bad experience although i went there almost everyday for 2 weeks . i was told not to take my mobile out of my pocket to take picture , because its not safe . i also keep my hand inside my pocket holding my cash most of the time . its very good if you cook yourself as you can get fresh veg + fish +meet+ chicken. fresh coconut to drink is only 30 pps . if you walk to the church the shops start , streets full of shops most of the prices are fixed but if you shop around you can find same cloth or shows been sold cheaper than others metro mall is very good to get at kitchen or tools stuff .western union is also cheaper to exchange money than cebu city centre . general the best is to take us dollars the commission is almost nothing , brit-pounds is the worst so is the euro , one last thing , its easy to get lost there

Carbon Market is probably pretty cool, IF you’re from Cebu. If you’re looking for the true sense of the phrase: “open air market” this is your spot. If you’re looking for safe and clean open air market, this is NOT the place for you.

As soon as we got out of our car (hired a driver) we were immediately accosted by a group of children who told us to give them money. We let them know we didn’t speak English or any other language they may know. Our driver must’ve know we were just going to walk in a circle and come immediately back in his car. He kept the engine running.

As the other reviewers have said the market is looks gross, smells bad, and is vile dirty.

Do better Cebu!

On our first full day in Cebu, Carbon Market was on our list of things to see. We met friendly helpful vendors, saw all sorts of items being sold and could not help but be struck by the poverty that some of these poop people are living in. Walking around the place, we were not hassled at all, but as we left, a young lad ran up from behind me and snatched my gold chain, which was barely visible.

This was our first day and we were tired. With hindsight, we should have known not to have any valuables on show. Just writing this review so that others do not make the same mistake as I did.

I went there with my aunt and this market is the most dirty market I ever seen. Naked kids playing on the crowded street, mostly selling used clothes, vegetables, fish and fruits We are the only foreigner walking on the street. This market mainly for their local peoples only. After walking a few street with my aunt suddenly someone snatched my necklace from behind and ran away. I shouted and turn around and saw a kid around 12 years old who snatched my necklace. Warning to all tourists, you will be target if you go there, unless you are in a big group. This place is not safe for tourists.

Everything is sold here at low prices. From vegetables, fruits, rice, meat, fish, used clothing, etc. Be watchful with your belongings as somebody is also watching your things.

This area is too crowded, too smelly, waste is thrown anywhere though it was regularly cleaned up - occupants should learned how to clean their surroundings. Needs also to clean and improve the drainage system.

It it advisable to visit this place in the morning or daytime. If nighttime for the ukay-ukay, make sure you have a friend or member of the family to accompany you.

Sometimes the Real Thing is not pretty, tastefully designed, skilfully presented, or visually awesome... sometimes it does smell, its crowded, its chaotic, its confusing, yet... in this world of fake things, it is real, and will provide you with a total filipino experience. Pretty much the best prices on food you will find in Cebu. Chock full of everything, and the perimeters continue the sale of various goods besides food. This can be a great visit, or a big mistake depending on your own personal outlook. For me, its a rich, vital, and lively environment and provides the chance to see how so many people earn their daily living and take care of what they will put on the table at night.

I grew up in Davao City. When I decided to move in Cebu City, I am surprised because the wet market in Cebu City is very very very offbeat to the wet market in Davao City. I don’t want to sound politically biased or anything, but Cebu wet market is dirty and unsafe. I remember when I bought a kilo of carrots, the vendor told me that I have to be careful because “This is Carbon.“

A poor, dirty market with not much to offer outside things are cheap if you haggle. It is fairly industrial being near the harbor. Probably worth a higher rating if you are an expat looking for cheap fruits/vegetables or housewares, but my rating is for the tourist. Some say it is not safe, but I went during the day and people were friendly and the standard security you see throughout Cebu was present.

You could spend hours here. I lasted about 15 minutes before the smell of the meat and fish markets got too bad.

In comparison, I went to Danao Markets about one hour north of Cebu. These are amongst the cleanest and freshest smelling markets I have ever been to in Visayas. Carbon Markets are one of the dirtiest and smelliest I have experienced. A shame, as they have so much to offer.

This is reputedly Cebu City's iconic wet market that never sleeps. Unfortunately, it seems that it is also never cleaned. Even from a block away, you can already smell what seems to be effluent and liquid waste. The road and pavement become all wet and grimy so be extra careful not to slip and fall on the squalid concrete slabs. They say prices of everything are the lowest here. That may be true, but the utter inconvenience and actual perils of going there - and actually entering the wet market section - may just be NOT WORTH IT! I'd readily pay a few pesos more in a place that's clean and dry, and where food items (like dried fish) are kept inside hygienic showcases.
