its called cleopatra's nipple. not cleopatra's needle. we saw this mountain formation along the way to the underground river. this one was called so because it looks like that, a nipple. its a good conversation piece. they have a name for several mountain formation. these help keep the almost 2 hour trip to the river lively, but it depends on the guide. our guide was good at explaining. not so with our group riding on the other 2 vans.

This is one place for eco-tourism. It is a good drive from Puerto Princesa but the sights along the way and the place itself is worth the trek. Bring water. Wear comfortable shoes.

I got to the top and back in just over 3 days, 3 nights camping open air in hammocks - no mosquitoes! Toughest physical effort of my life, but so, so worth it! Achieving this challenge has been the highlight of my year so far. We went with the guide Dampot to be found in the Batak village. Can be contacted through Rosalfina at the Batak Tribal Center located at Concepcion on the national highway. Highly recommended.
Please respect the Batak tribal people and their environment - they are only just now being introduced to the outside world and it's a very sensitive time for them.

A very good view of Rock Formation. Did not go inside or go near the cave. A very famous spot for photographers and it was one of the pit stop of amazing race. I really don't know the history why they called it Cleopatra's Needle.

Just one of the many natural limestone protrusions in a karst area. It is somewhat distinguished since an imagined obelisk sits atop the structure. A hill resembling an elephant's outline (naturally named Mt. elephant by the locals) stands behind Cleopatra's needle.
It is found on the way to the underground river coming from Puerto Princesa. The site was ine of the stopovers for the 2013 Asian Amazing Race event.
Not worth stopping for, if you ask me.

This and the elephant cave make an interesting stop. The weather was a bit damp on our visit but worth taking a few snaps. There is not much more than the attractions but there are a couple of informative boards and ample parking at the roadside.

Hi,
I"m looking to do a 3 day trek of cleopatras needle around March 5th.
I just can't find many tour operators that do it. i've followed the site advice, but just wondered if this was a trek you pre-organise from home or if you just rock up / hear about it when you were in palawan and decided to do it?
also do you carry a bigish bag with a sleeping bag and stuff or is it too hot so just carried a day bag? (i hear it's hamock not tent) and the guides tend to carry the food? i ask as i have a bad back so can't carry anything too heavy but a day bag should be fine.
and are there other great treks whilst in Palawan you recommend? maybe 1 or 2 days that are challenging 8hour days?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Jessica
