- Pauline D2 contributionsTrek in the rice fields3 days 2 nights trek with Armel. Magnificent site with a very good guide. Armel listens, he easily adapts the program according to what we want. We even had the right to a tailor-made breakfast. He is on top and knows how to organize everything. We feel so supervised, we can totally enjoy and anchor ourselves to the life of the locals. - Daniel LCopenhagen, Denmark30 contributionsGood views, but Batad is betterBanaue rice terraces are ofcourse a beautiful sight, we unfortunately visited the terraces in march, which is out of season, when it comes to the green colored terraces. The views are spectacular and hiking in the terraces is recommended. I would recommend for the fit people to visit batad rice terraces instead, those are 10/10.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2024
- Mark TDumaguete City, Philippines59 contributionsIncredible sceneryIncredible place to visit when visiting Bohol. What really struck me about this place was the man hours it must of took to build the terraces by hand without machinery. To this day the rice is planted and harvested by hand, absolutely incredible. The ride off the main highway is an adventure within itself. It’s actually a beautiful drive up into the foothills. WARNING! As soon as you turn off the road onto the one lane track to restaurant/terraces be extremely careful especially if you’re riding a scooter. One wrong move and you’ll swimming in a rice patty. If you’re unsure or not used to driving a scooter it might be better to just park and walk. The restaurant is basic, but the food is actually really good. It’s local cuisine and made fresh. If you feel adventurous and in decent shape you can walk down the stairs/path (from restaurant) to get a view of the lower terraces.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2024

Trek and circuits not necessarily easy to do but it's definitely worth it Jercy (our guide) was very attentive and adapts to all levels and the people he accompanies He is amazing and knows everything about everything, he was born and raised in one of the villages in Banaue I highly recommend him, here is his Facebook: Jercy CabbigatVisited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 3, 2024
- Gaelle G1 contribution3 wonderful daysWe have just finished a 3 day trek in the rice fields with Armel. It's absolutely brilliant. Armel listens and eagerly explains how the rice fields work and life in Banaue. We don't speak English very well and Armel has some French, it was rather fluid and we are delighted with the exchanges created. Armel adapts to our pace, he respects the breaks we want to take to see the different views. The accommodations are comfortable and clean. Everything is very well organized. Thank you Armel, this trek will be a beautiful memory of the Philippines. instagram trekking_banaue_armelVisited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 7, 2024
- Karin1503Leiderdorp, The Netherlands288 contributionsMost beautiful rice terraces we have ever seenThe rice terraces of Batad are really beautiful. Once you have parked the car, it is about a half-hour walk down through the forest. When you get there, first buy something to drink, which gives you direct access to the terrace with a great view. These are the most beautiful terraces we have ever seen.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 29, 2024

- Alfred GREGOIRE5 contributionsBanaue Rice Terraces TrekI left with 4 friends to do the trek in the rice terraces between Banaue and Batad over a period of 2 days. I strongly advise you to contact Zohan, a local guide who organizes tours in Northern Luzon (Buscalan, Sagada,...). His contacts are: zohanbanaue (instagram) or by phone (Philippine number +63 929 646 2552). It offers very affordable services for a complete and immersive tour in this magnificent region of Northern Luzon. Large groups are also accepted.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 22, 2024
- GiuliaMarotta, Italy1,614 contributionsNice, reachable by public transportThe Banaue terraces are usually the first you see because they are centrally located and because Banaue is a major bus stop from Manila They are not the most beautiful terraces but they are among those that can be easily reached by public transport, others can only be reached on foot with several hours of walking. If you want to do several days of trekking, it is absolutely advisable to take a guide. Walking on the terraces is dangerous and it is not so easy to orient yourself. Before leaving I contacted Jercy Cabbigat (I had read several reviews) and I had a great time, he was very communicative, kind and nice both before and during the tour. I really recommend it. The route that is usually offered by all guides includes 1/2 nights starting from Banaue and arriving in Batad passing through Pula and Cambulo. In my opinion the most beautiful terraces are those between Pula and Cambulo, but if done in full it is a rather demanding trek, it is not for everyone... Before leaving I looked at some hiking sites with routes traced with GPS, from Banaue to Cambulo it is 16.5km with 1000 meters of altitude difference uphill and 1600m downhill along high steps, while from Cambulo to Batad it is another 6km with 600m uphill and 800m downhill (I don't know if this last track includes the excursion to see the waterfall which I didn't do). When I go hiking in the mountains I usually don't exceed 1200m of altitude difference per day between ascent and descent, so with my guide I decided not to do the whole route. We went directly to Cambulo and from there we walked part of the Cambulo-Pula route. The next day we went to Batad, then returned to Banaue for the bus. For me it was okVisited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 26, 2024

Hello community, with a friend we returned from 4 days of trekking around Banaue, Colambo, Batad and other villages around this magnificent spot. We highly recommend doing the rice fields. Among all the places I have been to in the world, this one is now in first place.
But above all we strongly recommend that you take the guide we had because it is clearly the best "MARK". He speaks good English and a little French, he will explain lots of things to you about the history, traditions and customs of the Filipinos. He is caring, accommodating and tries to leave behind the other groups for a better immersion in the rice fields. Trust us, he’s the best! 😉 his fb: Ccmark cabbigat

We really want to recommend our guide Jercy Cabbigat if you’re thinking of trekking through the amazing rice terraces of Banaue/ Batad!! 🥹☀️ He was super nice and told us so much about their culture while showing us the incredible views on our 3D2N trek! April/ May is the high season for going, all the terraces are green at the moment 🌾

We had a 3 days trek in Ifugao.
First day included trekking in Hapao Rice Terraces, relaxing in hot springs and overnight in Banaue.
Then we had a 2-day trek from Banaue terraces to Pula village/terraces to Cambulo village/terrace. Overnight in Cambulo village and back to Banaue to catch the bus back to Manila.
The view was stunning. Our trek was organized by Jercy Cabbigat. It was well planned based on our needs. Jercy is very positive and friendly. His priority is that his guests have a great time. He explained many things about the local culture and even organized for us an event with local children dancing and singing. He speaks really well English too.
I cannot recommend him enough!! You can contact him directly through Facebook and he will organize everything for you.

Batad is pretty. The whole 30km trek is tough. Don’t do it if you don’t like hiking. Just do the small walk from Batad.
We did the tour with Franz. We found his services terrible. He was high on drugs and drunk all the time. Drinking beer as much as he could, and gin on the evening to the point he was sleeping on the table. We heard from locals it is usual behaviour from him.
We were expecting private services or a small group but we ended up being 10.
The food was absolutely terrible and very small. Serving instant noodles is not okay. We never saw his mother’s delightful cooking your read about on the forums.
He completely useless, giving absolutely no explanation. We had 2 other guides with us. One gave us 1 explanation on the first day, got wasted on the second day. The third guide was at least walking on front, a shame his English wasn’t so great.
On the way back, we were dropped at a restaurant with no other explanation than have dinner and shower. All other people were staying at his. If the ladies in the restaurant weren’t here we would have missed our bus as Franz completely forgot about us, but still sent someone to catch us before we left to collect the money. Money that paid countless beers and 10 bottles of gin...
The guides were in such no hurry that we left late both mornings very late despite everyone waiting for them. Every break was at least 45 min so they could drink their beers. The first evening, we ended up walking in the complete darkness despise walking at a good pace.
We much would have preferred to hear they had too many people than going through that catastrophy.
We very much regret coming to Banaue. If it wasn’t for Batad view, it would have been terrible on every single point.
What a waste of money and time.

An incredible experience! We opted for the 2 night and 3 day trek, a physically demanding adventure but well worth it. The landscapes are breathtaking, a true life experience.
We were lucky to have Armel as our guide, simply the best. Not only does he speak French very well and knows every corner of the region, but he is also attentive, funny, adorable and considerate. Armel went above and beyond to give us the greatest experience in the Philippines. We will forever be grateful and will miss him.
His coordinates :
- Armel Charles Ognayon
- WhatsApp: +63 998 232 8218
- Instagram: trekking_banaue_armel
The moments shared with the locals, such as traditional dances and songs with the village children, rice making, karaoke, and of course, the “aperitif” with Armel, made this trek unforgettable. Thank you for making this adventure as memorable as possible!

We’ve done a 2 days trek in the banaue rice terraces and it was gorgeous 🤩
The trek was not easy due to a typhoon that occurred 2 days before (the paths were a little damaged but nothing dangerous).
Our guide (Graham Zoro Hangdaan) was just simply the best (very friendly, he knows his region very well and love it 😊). He also speak a little bit French.
The experience and the landscapes that you can live during the trek are just astonishing

Unforgettable experience with Franz, the best guide in Banaue. 3 days and 2 nights of trek, top organization. His whole family is organized to ensure you have the best stay possible. Activities planned in the village with locals, everything is included from start to finish, the meals are excellent and the people are so kind and welcoming.
We highly recommend it to anyone wishing to enjoy an experience rich in conviviality in the UNESCO World Heritage rice fields.

Hello, I don't know if I should post this here but please refer me to the right thread.
My in laws are visiting the Cordillera region in April 2020. They're retirees and need of a french speaking tour guide/driver for the trip. Is there any leads do you guys know? Thanks

Hi there. I don’t know a guide who speaks french however you may try reaching out with Banaue Hotel as we have stayed there and they have local tours if I remember. They may recommend some people.

Hi guys, i am going this weekend from Manila to Banaue because of time I have just one day to spend there. Have anyone done the same and can recommend me what to see or do in a day please? Also I heard is good to hire a private transport and a guide is better to do it before or after arrival ?do you know some page where book it?
Thank you 😊🙏

Hi, an overnight would do at least in my opinion. The hike we did to explore the banaue rice terraces and waterfall took 4 hours one way and another 3 hours or so (based on your pace) to go back. It will be tiring but doable. then go straight to the souvenir shops (if you like to buy memento of your trip).
As for the private transport, there are groups doing joined hikes but also overnight minimum. :(

Bonjour,
Bon voyage

Does anyone know if the rice fields are susceptible to typhoons and if it is safe to travel as a foreigner during rainy season?
Written August 9, 2019
Hello. While the rice terraces themselves suffer little damage during the rainy season, the roads are susceptible to mudslides and other damages which may impede or harm a traveller. Better to wait until the wet season passes.

Hi,
Is it possible to make Banaue rice terraces and Batad terraces in 2 days?
I was planning to take the overnight bus from Manila to Banaue.
Than will take tricycle to saddle and hike to Batad. Will spend the night in Batad.
In the morning will go back to Banaue spend rest of day in Banaue and at night will go back to Manila.
Is that possible?
Cause i read it somewhere.
Thanks.
Written June 15, 2019
Yes it is possible! My fiance and I we're able to stay in Banaue and hike to the rice terraces the evening we arrived. Approximately 3-4hours time. Or you could pay someone to drive you to the top very easily. The next day our hotel provided a driver with a motorcycle and he took us to Batad. We left early in the morning and then we returned that evening around 6 p.m.. if you scheduled a night bus that night you could make it work in 2 days. If you took 3 days its plenty of time and you wouldn't have to rush just fyi.
Written June 18, 2019
If youre going to Batad its quite a walk and going up and down.. if youre not fit to walk you might not enjoy it.. id say do a small hike and warm up for it just to be prepared. But you absolutely can just chill and relax and enjoy the view of rice terraces from your hotel room if you stay at Batad trasient house/home. They have a great view from there.

Ciao a tutti, è fattibile fare questi terrazzamenti in una giornata A/R da Manila o è troppo faticoso e non si riesce a vedere tutto? Gradirei un cortese risposta da chi c'è già stato, grazie mille in anticipo :)
