One of two surviving gates of the Jogja fortress of the 18th century. One can climb up the adjoining steps on to the fortress wall. Just south of Alun-Alun Kidul.

This is a south gate of Kraton that could be passed by 2 cars. But at the mouth of the gate, only 1 car could pass. So just obey the traffic lights to avoid the jam when passing here

Norboyo Gate is the South gate of the Kraton. It has a stretch of walls on one side where you can actually walk on top.

This is one of the city landmarks being the gateway into the Keraton area. There's a long stretch of wall on one side. I can imagine in the olden days, the wall actually stretched and squared around the palace area. It's actually a busy intersection where traffic goes through it all day and night. In the day time it's a little hot but in the night, many a couple come here as a dating place. It's quite cooling to walk on top of the wall at night and observe the surrounding neighbourhood.
TA staff - please correct the location. Nirboyo Gate is at the south of Alun-Alun Kidul (south city square) and not on the western side.

We passed this gate after we visited Kraton, and compared to the other gates, this one is nicely preserved. Although there are quite a number of shops nearby and within the vicinity, the gate is still impressive to look at, and compared to the busy Kraton, this, I think, should also be given importance when you visit the area.

This is the impressive South Gate, the best preserved of five gates in the city wall surrounding the Kraton. The walls are actually more exciting than the Palace itself but rarely get any publicity. There are steps up this one and you can walk along a stretch of the south wall. Its free and you wont get any hassle from touts. When you reach the south east corner you will have a great view of the 17th Century Bojok Bastion. This gate was the one where Sultan's once they had died, were carried to their graves.
