Great market. Massive and easy to get lost in. Found awesome local batik down the side alleys and watching the locals buying their daily stuff. Local food around if you hunt around the little corners and entrances.

We visited a couple of times when we were in the Jalan Maliaboro area. The first time was on Sunday and the place was too packed and hot. We returned on a weekday when the crowds were less.

However, we were quite disappointed as the shops mostly sold identical items, especially batik clothing. There were not many spice shops, though there are kitchenware stalls along one side where you can find beautiful scales.

Foodwise, we were not sure of the cleanliness of the place, as the floors were wet and dirty, even though we have eaten at other markets in Bali, Bangkok and Vietnam. There were also not many fruits on offer.

Yes, it is interesting to visit to see how the locals shop etc, but do not expect much in terms of purchasing items. There is an interesting section on the second floor where you can see wedding dresses and finery.

Very hot and crowded local market. They hundreds of stalls selling same design batik. Price are cheap... But I would go to shops along Marioboro that sell same products but less crowded.

If you want to experience being with the locals, visit this market. The smell, colour, touch and sight would give you a trilled moment to experience. Just like any local markets in Indonesia, this would be another activity in your itinerary when you are in Jogya.

The front part of the building is selling mostly clothing and daily necessaries, and at the back is the wet market. The market is crowded with people, mostly the locals. There are variety of products selling in the market, some with price tags but mostly not. There is a small foodcourt with few stalls selling local cuisine on the top floor.

It is located in Malioboro syreet of Jogjakarta. Recently renovated but keeps traditional environment with variety of clothing, souvenir and food. It worth to visit when you are in Malioboro street or Jogjakarta Palace.

Located along Malioboro Road... so can't be missed. Most shops sell the same stuff, batik dress and shirts. You need to walk around to find different stuff and occassionally some women peddlers will be at the back selling their items not found in the market. Need to bargain aggressively as there will probably be another shop selling the same stuff. Good place for affordable shopping....try the local delicacies outside the market at the main entrance... these are local pastries.

I walked around this market today looking for good souviner t-shirts. I could not find a style or proper size I want as their xl is too small and XXL seems to big here. Plenty of stuff and batik on offer or maybe it's fake I don't know. Pretty big old fun market to walk around anyway.

We went here without intention to purchase but still did get away with the bags full, and also did buy a handmade leather bag, bargained from 650k to 375k. Not bad. Food wise it’s nothing to write home about. People here are friendly and it’s easily walkable.
We parked the scooter just between the two buildings that makes up the market. There is an English sign telling of the different sections and what they sell, that sign is just on the section between the two main buildings.
