    Very lively area
Very lively area at night full of stores and restaurants/street food. There are many live concerts around. However, BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS around about the batik art. If you are approached by really friendly people who get you or show a small batik exhibition gallery in a nearby street, this is a SCAM, it is not their last day of the exhibition and other líes, they are probably impressions sold at a very high price.

    The heart of Yogyakarta
Malioboro Road is the heart of Yogyakarta. There are many shops to buy souvenirs and plenty of places to eat, have coffee, or enjoy ice cream. But above all, it's a lively street, very pleasant for strolling. It's a good place to meet people. However, sometimes people may approach you and tell you that a certain temple is closed or invite you to visit their exhibition or shop. It's normal.

    Upbeat Malioboro
I went on a Saturday night and the road was packed with people but it had a really lively atmosphere. There are many stores for shopping and to buy souvenirs. There is also live music along the road. The only downside was that it was really hard for us to book a GRAB because the place was congested.

    ‘Heart of Yogyakarta’
Malioboro road is the Main Street of Yogyakarta. It’s quite pleasant for a stool as it features wide walking footpaths that are not littered with scooters and sidewalk vendors. The street itself has a large number of stores featuring all kinds of items - particularly Souvenirs. There are also a few restaurants with most of the street vendors being in the northern part of the street. Overall worth a visit but nothing spectacular.

    The "busy" Malioboro Street
This is a very busy street. One can buy any items, easily. There are a lot of food outlets. Nice 3 to 5 star hotels along this street. We stayed in a 4-star hotel, which is along this road. At night we spend hours looking at and enjoying the view with kopi "Joss".

With street vendors localized on the edge of the street, and boulevard widen, there's nothing much more to see.
Street performer was just starting to tune up his drum. Line dancing in front of Mirota Batik. My cousin said the mime starts at noon. Just empty street of shops. Only another Orchard Road of batik. But with too many surveyors, becak riders offering services, statues to take selfies. Nothing interesting happening

An endless alignment of shops and coffee bars that all sell more or less the same goods.
Restaurants and bars are totally absent of the area (unless you're a fast-food fan) and the shopping mall dates back to the 80's.
The street is packed with teenagers idly watching their counterparts sipping on coffee and juice. Thank you but thank you

The pedestarian is now free from street vendors. They are being allocated to 2 spot on each end of the road. Now the street is filled with park chairs and esthetic road blocks. I just wish they still give space for street performer so the entertainment can be enjoyed, not only street for shopping

We chose to stay at the newly built Novotel Hotel that's adjoining the Malioboro Mall. It was handy to the famous Malioboro road so easy access and easy to get back once we had enough of the hustle and bustle. The people are quite laid back not like other market areas of the world.

We walked here from outer hotel near the Tugu. It wasn't hot, being evening, and there were hordes of visitors, and we weren't spending much time here as we weren't shopping for clothes, that being the most popular thing to buy. Instead we shopped in an oleh-oleh shop, of which there were many.
Visit just to satisfy your curiosity on what this famous street is about, have a local meal, but dress suitably: light cotton, sandals. Leave your wallets in your hotel.s

Malioboro street is extremely popular with the locals and Indonesian tourists. So my expectation was high when I chose to stay at Novotel Suites Yogyakarta in Malioboro since it was written in Google reviews and several websites that this is “the place” to stay and hangout in the day and night. I was all excited when I first walked along the street taken in by the local street vibe of horse carts and motorized “beca” or tricycle during the day and come nightfall, there were live musics on the street and lots and lots of locals..either walking up and down the street or just sit on every possible benches available.

For us, after wandering up and down the street, there was’t much to see, do, eat or drink. It’s just shop after shop selling the same stuffs and lots and lots of batik shops if you are into batik. The only nice shop along the street is Hamzah Batik which is an upscale boutique store. Do not expect to find anything here that cater for international or western tourists. There are few local street stalls and shops selling local food off Malioboro Street. That’s about it.

If you really, really must visit Malioboro Street, I would suggest to do in the evening when it is livelier with some street musics. But don’t expect to find food and drink that cater for international tourists.

This place is something else. Vendors weren’t pushy and there is also several shopping centres along this long stretch of road. Interesting souvenirs to be had. Batik shops everywhere from cheap to expensive. Lots of local warungs (cafes) with different local delicacies offerings. A must see and visit.

This trip is not my first to Malioboro Road, i must say that its the heart of yokja. its laid back with normal city life. People doing about their daily routine. Busy street with horse chart, Trisha, bicycles and other mode of transport. Friendly faces, batik is everywhere. so feast your eyes with hands on batik painting demonstration. Try out the local delicacies, Roti bakar is a must try food, including bakso. Somewhere at the main square is the Palace, museum and railway station. It really bring you back in time (at least mine). My 5th visit and counting!
