I can't speak to the restaurant and home-stay personally but can enthusiastically recommend the community-based sightseeing and experiential workshops that ViaVia offers. Located in the southern tourist zone of Yogyakarta city, ViaVia's operating philosophy all involve local people involvement and "give back" to the local community. They are also incredible good value for money. Some of the tours/ workshops that... More

My husband and I went for the afternoon cooking class at ViaVia. We both enjoyed it very much. Met new friends, learn to cook local cuisine instructed by a very experience Chef ("Madae"), pardon me if I spelt wrongly. She is the author of a cook book which you can purchase at ViaVia. Discounted price will be offered if you... More

My fiancee and I had a wonderful time with our instructor, who took us through the nearby market to buy fresh ingredients before we began cooking in the morning. We were advertised two dishes but cooked closer to six, and everything was delicious and enjoyable. This was our favorite activity over three days in Jogja.

Fun, relaxed and informative cooking experience. On arrival we were asked to choose our menu for the course. There are many options available for all eaters. With a maximum of 4 in each course there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Made was a fountain of knowledge as she has been a chef for many years. Her English is... More

Had one more day to spare in Jogja, and decided to take a cooking class. Called the day before to arrange a morning cooking class. Not sure what to expect. Made was our instructor, told us to pick 2 dish from a cook book ( which she wrote and is for sell). Then we off to the market. A traditional... More

We did the village bike tour with amanda this morning. It was great! I can totally recommend it. We went to small villages in the neighbourhood and saw the rice fields, how they make kroepoek, tempeh and bricks. You can try some of the things yourself. It was really nice and gives you a good idea of how people live... More

We had a fantastic cooking course, with our lady who has lived in Jogja for 20 years now. We did the slightly more expensive morning course with a trip to the market, which I really loved, and thought was worth seeing. It was a locals food market, no other tourists around, and it was great to be somewhere that didn't... More

We did an amazing and very affordable food tour of Yogya on scooters, and our guides Reza and Angel were fantastic, leaving us with some great insights into modern Indonesian life as well as introducing us to some delicious and totally new foods. We also did a tour to Borobudur through ViaVia – we suspect this might be a relatively... More

I booked a couple of days out with these people. First rate. I particularly enjoyed the cycle trip to the villages. The guide was informative and helpful and the bikes in very good condition. I used them to hire a motorbike to get to the temples and was very happy with both drivers.

I'm very satisfied with the Prambanan by motorbike tour and the Kali Code Walk. The guides are quite professional and the pricing is fair for solo travelers. Viavia's high standard is also reflected in the fair trade shop, cafe and guesthouse. Clearly Viavia is a Yogya travelers' institution. For many years to come.
