It was just awesome, arrived in the sunset time was perfect for the family...
My nieces also more than happy to see the temples, unfortunately we cannot enter the temple, but that's not a big deal because we can enjoy from outside also...
Hopefully covid19 soon going so we can enjoy the temples properly, and for sure we will come back again.

This temple is also beautiful but is great to visit because there are not the crowds associated with other sites.
We paid an entry fee / donation because I hope it goes towards restoration work for the site.
Some of the structures are in ruins on the ground, so I believe it is important to rebuild and fix.
We walked around and had many of the cultural aspects explained to us by a local.
Go inside where you can and see the amazing statues.
If these building were in Europe you would not be able to touch and climb on them like we were able.
Treat them carefully as they are gorgeous.
Well worth the visit.

While Prambanan and Borobudor are the areas highlights, Plaosan is on the way back from Prambanan and definitely worth the stop. Very quiet, with virtually no one else around as you explore.

Plaosan Temple located one mile north-east of Prambanan, although adjacent to Prambanan but Plaosan a Buddhist temple Prambanan unlike his brother who is a Hindu temple, It is proved by the presence of a stupa on the top of the temple, while also found perwara temple ornament, small temples/companion palosan numerous in the temple, which is characteristic of Buddhist temple.

This was such a great experience and site to see. Quite beautiful in terms of the matching towers and the guardian statues around them. The piles of stones indicating the magnitude of the site at one time was also impressive. If you are someone who likes to visit temples this one is a must-see. Really quite extraordinary. And we had the entire site to ourselves. Not a single person was there.

Its slightly difference architecture style compare to prambanam temple , and its quite a distance from prambanam. Unless you still energetic after visit Prambanam and sewu temple, you might wanna think of hire a trishaw to send you there. But beware of the entrance fees , there didnt stated clearly for the entrance fees , most probably is free , but the guard might try to make some money for their own. So its up to your own to bargain about the entrance fees. I have been cheated to pay 200k Rp for 3 person. End up , some post mention they just paid for 1USD as donation.

This is my favourite temple. It has both Hindu and Buddhist element in its temple architecture. It is also a good spot to snap good photos and fewer crowds. The entrance fee is cheap, we paid IDR 20000 for two person.
Saw a few Buddha statues in this temple but some was not in perfect condition. The surroundings are very greenish and peaceful. Clean and very well preserved.

If you are interested in history and mythology, include this temple in your list of ‘things to do in Yogyakarta’. Candi Plaosan, also known as the ‘Plaosan Complex’, is one of the Buddhist temples located in Bugisan village, about a kilometer from the renowned Hindu Prambanan Temple. The Plaosan complex currently comprises two Buddhist temples, Plaosan Lor and Plaosan Kidul.
Today, only two statues of Bodhisattva seated on each sides of each rooms, flanked by an empty pedestal. Rows of exquisite carvings are found adorning the outer walls, with the majority of them being male. Smaller and less occurring carvings by the windows represent female figures.

The temple is free entrance (I suggest to give some donation) and it is in very good conditions. Because it is not included in most of tours, there is not much people inside.

I arrived after a visit to Prambanan, and it was probably 445pm on a Friday. There were hardly any other visitors there, which made for a very peaceful visit. The sun was just beginning to set behind the rice fields that live next to the temple. Made for gorgeous photos!
On the other side of the road, the temple reliefs continue - it was less impressive as the main temple, however, the road was lined with houses, so it was nice to see locals living peacefully next to the temple.
I may have enjoyed Plaosan more than the other temples because it was much less structured, less people and seemed to be the temple that is closest and most present amongst local life.
Note - access to the temple is 'free', although if you come with a driver, there is a small parking fee.

Can we visit Plaosan temple and Merapi volcano site with a 8 month old baby? We plan to visit Yogyakarta in mid- February.
Written January 13, 2018
Hi, yes for Plaosan temple ... there is no physical adventure there. Although area might not be stroller friendly
At the Merapi site ... few precautions are advised ... specifically ask the driver to not attempt the fast, jerky drive. They do that for some thrill.
The air around the site is dusty so something to cover the baby appropriately. Specifically some air filter mask.
