The museum contains valuable paintings of the Sultan's family, and exhibits such as batik depicting Javanese culture. The grounds are beautiful but photography is not allowed until in a special area at the conclusion of the tour, which is just outside a restaurant. The guide was excellent, but she spoke very fast. Visitors must use a guide, either English or Indonesian speaking, and the prices for either differ quite a bit. I think we chose one who spoke Indonesian, but either way, it would turn out good as, based on what we saw, the items on exhibit were esthetically interesting and educational.
There's plenty of parking.

We visited Ullen Sentalu museum last Dec 31st, which proven to be very interesting and enjoyable. This is a privately run museum but under coordination with government ministry. The best way to enjoy this museum is to join both tours provided, at very reasonable fees, to understand the history about Java and its people, and Yogyakarta & Surakarta Sultanate. One tour is conducted in Bahasa Indonesia and the other one is in English. Photos taking only allowed at certain locations and not allowed during the tours themselves. I strongly recommend visiting this museum when you’re in Yogyakarta or Magelang area.

I'm very impressed with the museum's collection and our English speaking guide was really helpful! I learnt many things about the history of Jogja and Java. I especially loved the room with all the letters. Reading them was very heartwarming. I highly recommend.

This is a private museum that contains relics and artifacts from royal families of Java. The tours are guided, and English-speaking visitors must wait for an English-speaking guide to be available. My guide was difficult to understand and uninspired. Also, no pictures can be taken inside the museum. The grounds to the museum were very lovely ..... impressive, actually. I was a bit disappointed in this museum, mainly due to a need for a guide, and the inability to take pictures.

Because we speak English, not local language, we are given Tour Option 1 only as Tour Option 2 is in local language only. Tour 1 discusses the Rulers in the 20th Century to the present only. The clothes they wore & a little bit about their lives. Tour 2 covers the history of Indonsia from the pre-islam period thru present time stressing the kingdoms & the colonial periods. Even a brief discussion on Princess Diana's visits. Tour 1 is terrible. Don't do it. Tour 2 is excellent but their is a language problem. The Museum & grounds are gorgeous. What a shame they changed their pre-pandemic policy on tours. The guide Etu was very rude & should be kinder to foreigners. A demotion is appropriate in my opinion.

Visited here after Burobudor. Had been mentioned to me by woman at coffee shop, and another museum as well as my driver.
The tour of this museum is by guided tour, entry fee is 100k for foreigner. (not sure for locals)
I typically avoid guided tours like the plague.
It's a good thing I didn't know that before going and until after buying ticket, or I would have missed out on a very insightful tour.
One can only take photos in a couple of places, which is more understandable once one begins the tour.
Tour introduces one to a more intimate history of the royal families.
There is also a restaurant and coffee shop at the location.
Couple small local vendors at parking area.
Some work was being done at the site, perhaps for more exhibits?

This museum located in Kaliurang and quite far from downtown Yogyakarta. However, it has exquisite exterior and interior building with natural design. It has lots of private collection from collectors that remark the Mataram and Ngayogyakarta Sultan. This museum is private owned, there for quite pricey for the entrance fees, but it's worth it. They also provide tour guide included with entrance fees.

This museum was on our list when we were in Yogyakarta. It was a guided tour that you could take in English as well. It was nice to hear about the history of Yogyakarta/Solo and their royal families. The tour lasted about 50 minutes but it was very informative and interesting. Would recommend if you’re in the area :) Also a pretty place to take photos after. Do note that no photos are allowed during the tour.

Museum with collection of instruments, paintings, letters, photos, sculptures and also the history of batik from the royal families of Yogyakarta and also Solo. It's located in a beautiful building. My friends bought four entrance tickets but when we entered the building and the staff saw us as foreigner, we had to get back to the ticket booth to change the ticket for "Foreigner Ticket" that cost double than the local price. Yep, tourist!
