We got to experience and learn so much on this well organised tour, which departed from Jakarta. Transported by plane, bus, cars and motorised canoes. Hotels were of good quality as was our village home stay. All meals were delicious, even catering to clients with gluten intolerance. The Orangutan Odyssey’s team were always there to help if needed, which I feel is important when one is in unfamiliar places. Nothing was an issue for them. On this trip we were able to see a wild orangutan in the tree canopy during a trek, viewed from the river rehabilitated orangutans on a COP pre release island , along with visiting the COP orangutan school where orphaned Orangutan learn skills to enable then to go back to the wild. Leif Cocks ( Orangutan expert) provided informative talks during the tour , which were thought provoking. We were welcomed into a Dayak village and learnt about the culture. We were a group of 12 from different lifestyles and all got on fabulously well. I definitely book another trip with Orangutan Odyssey’s in the future.

The OVAID Borneo Tour took place between 1st – 9th November 2019. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Garry, Hayley, Ivend, and all the tour guides and drivers for a truly wonderful trip. Everyone worked tirelessly and thoughtfully to ensure a wonderful experience. The tour was organised exceptionally well, all participants were kept fully informed as to the tour itinerary, provided with a first class service in relation to travel arrangements, internal flights, medical requirements, accommodation, meals and visits to various locations within Borneo. I would recommend Orangutan Odysseys to any adventurers. I will certainly be travelling with Orangutan Odysseys in the future.

Hi John, thanks so much for the great review. It was our pleasure to have you along on this remarkable trip with such a wonderful group of people that help raise critical funds to allow OVAID to bring over the veterinary supplies to help save the orangutans. We really enjoyed meeting you and showing you around Borneo and look forward to seeing you again on another OO tour. Best regards, Garry

There are many reasons why this was one a great travel experiences. Firstly, you just can’t go past actually seeing so many orangutans in their native habit. They were just fantastic to watch. Their antics, their faces, their social interactions, their capacity to create such emotions in the people who were there watching. The smiles on the faces of the people were just so broad and you could really sense the excitement as each new orangutan appeared. The orangutans weren’t the only wildlife that you saw as well. My favourite position was sitting at the front of the boat and just watching for all the wildlife on the river banks and particularly monkeys and birds and we made our way up and down the river. Secondly, the crew and boat were fantastic. From the moment Ivend met me at the airport to when he said goodbye to me at the airport at the end, him and the three other crew were great. Ivend was friendly, very experienced, full of knowledge and obviously very committed to supporting the orangutans. The boat captain and the ship hand had perpetual smiles on their faces the whole trip. Nothing was too much trouble and each one of them went out of their way to make my experience the best it could possibly be. They took things slowly on the river rather than speed along like many other boats and they found slightly quieter places to tie up for at night. As for the food, it was absolutely brilliant and there was plenty of it. And as for the boat, yes it’s basic but you’re in the jungle! What I thought amazing was just how clean and spacious it all was. All up, I have to say that with the crew and boat and being in the Borneo jungle, I felt like it was luxurious compared to what I had expected. For any similar tour that I’ve been on, what’s also really important is the support that you get from the organisation, before during and after the event. From my perspective Orangutan Odysseys was great. Before the trip they were very responsive to both my travel agent and myself with any queries. In the lead up to my trip the fires were very bad in Borneo so there there was some uncertainty about flights and whether there would be other impacts. Garry provided great responses and they adjusted everything when my arrival flight was delayed by a number of hours. At the very end of my combined Orangutan and dragons tour (I’ve just focussed on the orangutan part of it here) they were also great in making some last minute flight and hotel changes. The support i received from Orangutan odyssey’s was far superior to that received from a larger long established company that looked after the next stage of the trip. Finally, all the above are great reasons to do a trip with Orangutan Odysseys. But you add to that the fact that they are also actually putting money into directly supporting orangutans and that adds a special something to your involvement and I think the engagement of all the people concerned. It’s not just another 100% commercial operation. Sorry this is long but I think it’s worth spelling it all out!

One cannot write a complete review of every detail of such a lifelong-dream come true on a site such as this. Were there shortfalls and miscommunications? Sure. Did we see orangutans? Sure. Was the trip everything as promised? No. Are OO's prices more than other tour companies? I don't know, but according to our guide, it's because OO contributes to the one, or more, orangutan rehabilitation facilities. Bottom line, I saw orangutans - not "wild" orangutans, but orangutans just the same.

For years my mother wanted to go to Borneo to see the orangutans and she and I were not disappointed. She was so happy that she chose to go with Orangutan Odysseys and did the Tanjung Puting Orangutan Experience. We have nothing but praise for all involved. The tour was well organised, the boat crew were professional and very friendly, and the food was great. The boat was comfortable and we thought it was the best on the river. It was a very good tour, but it was Ivend our guide who made it great. To see so many orangutans and their babies, lots of monkeys and wild pigs was amazing!
