The entrance to the main structure is kinda difficult to find, to get into the monument you’ll have to find the main entrance and ticketing area which is on the northern side of the huge park. After getting your ticket you’ll have to walk through a underground tunnel which leads you directly to the monument.
Entrance fee is very affordable at only rp30k on top of that you’ll also get a transport card (equivalent to the Opal card in Sydney, Ez-Link card in Singapore or Oyster card in London), the cost of the card is included in entrance fee. If you choose to visit the top of the monument, you’ll be given a ‘queue card’ then proceed to level 2 of the monument and wait for your alphanumeric code to be called to board the elevator to the top.
If you happen to visit it during the day it’s advisable to apply your sunscreen before visiting. Bring along an umbrella as well, there isn’t many sheltered area in the park, so when it rains the nearest shelter could be a 5 mins run away.
Level 1 of the monument is a huge hall with timeline of the national’s progress. Level 2 is a waiting area and viewing area (this is where you’ll board the elevators to the top). View from the top is amazing, you’ll be rewarded with a 360 degree view of Jakarta.

In the center of Merdeka (means freedom) square, one can visit the impressive Monas monument celebrating the independence of Indonesia from Dutch colonial rule. The memorial is more than 100 meters high and ends up in a deck from which we have an exciting bird view of the vast metropolis. Unfortunately, the deck is not always open, the elevator is tight, and only a few tens of people can fulfill the visit. We didn't find clear information on the timetable visits. The monument also displays in the interior am exhibition with a summary of the History of Indonesia and flashes on the country 34 provinces. Monas is naturally a nationalist monument as is most nation-states; therefore, it has a propaganda flavor and celebrates national memory, not a sound historical perspective.

The weather was so hot and when I visited a national monument. There were an underground museum and tunnel, it was pretty cool to see, especially so many cute kids were visiting. Therefore, I did see whole jakarta from top of this construction. It was pretty nice. Also, you can rent a bike, hanging around square.

You can take elevator and go up to its peak, but it's really not that high and the view is not that great. I don't recommend you to go inside. You can go to other skycrapers' restaurant if you want to get a good birdeye view of the town. However, in the morning especially on Sunday, do jog around and take picture of yourself with MONAS on the background. It's fun.

THE symbol of Independence of Indonesia is a big tower, you can go inside to visit and go to the top, but beware, can be very busy in weekends. A lot of info about the fight for independence and a big area for having a walk and eat something. They now (march 2020) are improving the area with new trhees, etc.i

Impressive National Monument symbolising Indonesia's independence from Dutch rule. Set in a beautiful green city lung. Great to see it visited by so any local people - definitely not just a "tourist stop". Next time I am in Jakarta, I will definitely go up at night.

Massive grounds surround this concrete behemoth with the goblet at the top. The street up to the monument is closed off to cars, so there is a bit of a walk to get to the monument. The actual ticket office for the monument is located across the street and below ground. We walked down and under to the ticket window below ground. Not a long line and once at the window decided to the combo ticket to the top. It was at this time we were informed the wait would be more than a two hour wait time. After hearing this, we opted to pass on visiting this monument.

This is the major landmark of Jakarta. It is a must visit for first timers to the city’s capital. In its complex are many food stalls and souvenir shops . A shuttle service plies the route to the monument a little closer. We were ill advised by the tour guide to go up the elevator. But we were brought to a place underneath showing various dioramas of the country’s history . Don’t miss this one .

We met a Indonesian English teacher while touring the historic district and he took us to the National Monument. I'm not sure we would have made it all the way in without his help, besides the entrance just getting through the line to get the tickets was a small adventure. It was very busy when we were there with school children. Overall somewhat interesting.

Tetap buka meskipun tanggal merah (libur nasional)

Beda orang beda harga.

Which gate is it that is open to MONAS? Please give an exact description so that we can avoid the long walk since we will be with older people who have arthritis? Some of the reviewers said that it is the North gate that is open, but as I view it on the map the Merdeka square has four gates, one on each corner. Thus, there are two gates on each corner of the north side and two gates on each corner of the South. I can interpret that the north left side gate is actually the north gate, the north right side gate is the east gate, south left gate is the west gate and the south right gate is the actually south gate.

actually all gates are open
but only 1 open for vehicle, so it's for parking area
for the gates very close to gambir is always close
this gate is the one which facing into US embassy
but all other 3 gates are always open for walking by foot
if you hv older with arthritis, i'm not recommended to go very near to monas
since it's quite far
it's better if you only take photos from distance
unless you need to go to peak of monas
with lift ride
