    Jskarta's Historical National Monument
Centrally located in Jakarta is a large park, Merdeka Square, and is also the location for Indonesia's National Monument. The National Monument symbolizes Indonesia's struggles for independance and national unity. Standing at 433 ft. (132 m) tall, the Monument is one of the tallest structures in Indonesia. There is no entry fee to enter the park area to visit the Monument, but there is a long walk from the entrance to the base of the monument. There are trams available from the park entrance to the base for a fee. At times it can be quite busy at the Monument because most tours to Jakarta generally makes a stop here because it is a historically important structure.

    Interesting but annoying ticketing
We wandered up here from Cikini on foot and took the train back after our visit. You have to walk to an underground tunnel to start your visit. Then annoyingly they make you buy a Jakcard to put your tickets on. An extra cost we didn’t need as we won’t ever use this card again, but at least they took my student card so we got a discount. The day was not busy as it was Ramadan so we got up to the top yard easily. The views are good. It is an interesting place but still don’t understand why they can’t just sell you a paper entry ticket.

    The Heart of Jakarta
The heart of Central Jakarta with a big park surrounding it. It was very busy but worth walking around this place. It is a good 30 minutes walk from Bundaran Hl Metro Station though to get here

    Meh
We expected a lot more to see and do as this is the national monument of Indonesia. However, we were left feeling that we may have missed something? The place was quite deserted and even on Independence Day, there didn't seem to be much going on. The gates were closed and it was difficult to get in. Overall, interesting to look at for 10-15 minutes and the surrounding park is decent but other than that, not much else to do.

You can take elevator and go up to its peak, but it's really not that high and the view is not that great. I don't recommend you to go inside. You can go to other skycrapers' restaurant if you want to get a good birdeye view of the town. However, in the morning especially on Sunday, do jog around and take picture of yourself with MONAS on the background. It's fun.

Jakarta National Monument

There’s not much to visit in Jakarta but for sure, the Monasa - National Monument is worth to do it, being an important tourist attraction.

But arm yourself with lot of patience and PAY ATTENTION to the entrance tickets.

When you buy the ticket to go to the top of the monument, along with it, they give you a card. On the ticket, there is a waiting list number, that means that it does’t matter your position in the line, you go by numbers. So don’t lose the ticket !!!

There is an interesting underground museum with a beautiful diorama picturing Indonesia’s history. Then, there is an open platform at the first floor with a nice view. From there you take the only one elevator to the top, but be prepared to wait for at least 60 min because the lift capacity is about 10 persons at a time, totally insufficient for the hundreds of persons waiting outside. The same when you get down.

There is also an emergency stair but it’s not opened to the public. Considering it’s section at the top, I guess there would be a lot of problems in case of emergency evacuation …

Nice place to spend few hours and learn about the history of Indonesia. In the museum they have 20+ nativity scenes going from the beginning to present day. Very well done and entire family enjoyed. We also go tickets to visit the tower (was a 3 hour wait but luckily you don’t have to stay in line only show up at scheduled time slot). It was a nice overall view of the city from 130 floor structure but it is not really worth the wait. Walking through park was nice as well. We stayed at Millennium Hotel which is 20 mins walking distance although crossing the streets is an adventure in Indonesia.

Even if you stay in Jakarta for a short period of time, you should make time to visit the national monument at Merdeka Square. It was quite a sight to visit up close. They have an observation deck up top where you can get reasonably good views of the city. The grounds surrounding the monument are beautifully maintained.

THE symbol of Independence of Indonesia is a big tower, you can go inside to visit and go to the top, but beware, can be very busy in weekends. A lot of info about the fight for independence and a big area for having a walk and eat something. They now (march 2020) are improving the area with new trhees, etc.i

Massive grounds surround this concrete behemoth with the goblet at the top. The street up to the monument is closed off to cars, so there is a bit of a walk to get to the monument. The actual ticket office for the monument is located across the street and below ground. We walked down and under to the ticket window below ground. Not a long line and once at the window decided to the combo ticket to the top. It was at this time we were informed the wait would be more than a two hour wait time. After hearing this, we opted to pass on visiting this monument.

Impressive National Monument symbolising Indonesia's independence from Dutch rule. Set in a beautiful green city lung. Great to see it visited by so any local people - definitely not just a "tourist stop". Next time I am in Jakarta, I will definitely go up at night.

A lovely public space but I’ve never seen so many buses at a single attraction in my life (someone told us there was some commemoration happening this weekend). We didn’t go inside, lines were long and it was extremely hot outside. Just took some fun photos and moved on.
