I am a person who likes to experience the spiritual side of a place so in addition to visiting the main mosque in Jakarta, I visited this christian church. So much history and after now having visited South Africa and learned about the Dutch presence in both places, my appreciation has grown.

I think this lovely church is well worth visiting, particularly since there are not that many historic sites left in Jakarta. It is good to see however that the old Dutch quarter around Fatahillah Square is reasonably looked after. The church is only about 10 minutes walk from there and people are very friendly providing access. Built in the late 16 hundreds it is almost unimaginable what times must have been like then but it gives one a chance to think about it and one is transported back in time to a degree, The tombstones in Dutch are moving tributes to people deceased far from their native homeland.

Gereja Sion is one of the remnants that showed Portuguese have come to Indonesia before the Dutch colonization. Gereja Sion is clean and well preserved, with several tombstones still existed from the old days.

Zion Church is characteristically Dutch with its plain facade, ward-like appearance and domed windows. Its an old authentic and quite well preseved church. Unfortunately only few protected building like this around the town

theres not much old heritage for ducth era in jakarta (ie. batavia) reserved.. having one of the interesting culture, and still in spirit of the portuguese sion is something to experience. if you are hunting with your lenses, it could be interesting. to get here you need to ask around and be ready with jakarta quite heavy street, but its an adventure right, i recommend to have planned together with a few best old heritage buildings and cultured preserve, here in the old town area of jakarta, so a tone day trip in few points would be interesting.best to get to the area with train to kota, then you can have local transport or event cab there with ease ....
